Explain your project idea (2,000 characters)

The Africa Cup of Slam Poetry (ACSP) is a panafrican event that brings together artistic talent from Africa and globally. ACSP creates synergy, unification in the artistic scene and hence works on a united Africa. Slam Poetry, the celebration of words, has become an important cultural expression in many African countries over the past decade. ACSP promotes Slam Poetry as a uniting force. It is based on national competitions whose winning teams will join the African Cup in Ndjamena in November 2018. The ACSP 2018, the first edition of this annual continental adventure, is a 5-day event in N'Djamena, Chad, from 5 to 10 November 2018. It consists of a series of concerts, debates, workshops, graffiti, film screenings, slam challenges and various competitions. During the slam competition, the main event of ACSP, the winners of national slam competitions will compete for the continental crown? The next edition will take place in another african country and so and so far.

How is your idea unique? (1,000 characters)

The African Cup of Slam Poetry (ACSP) is the answer to a real and manifest will of the national federations and associations promoting slam in Africa. Slam is a form of art where poetic texts are declaimed on a background of music or just vocal (acapella). It promotes intellectual and cultural development through exploration and discussion of current societal issues. Recently arrived in the sphere of urban music, it has however established itself rather quickly in the world; many stars of hip hop have converted to slam. Recently (since 5 years?) African countries joined the Slam art movement. Several festivals have been created in which many slammers from different countries participated. African slam is programmed on several distinguished music and art festivals and receives awards in Africa as on other continents, both in slam and music categories. Nevertheless there is still a lot to do to develop slam in Africa. This project is unique because it is the first continental competition

Our main conviction is that Culture is the Art to live. Our mission is to make culture a development tool to promote the next generation. Therefore we initiate cultural activities that allow young people to become full citizens through appropriation of cultural skills. This is done through trainings, competitions and festivals. For this specific case, in collaboration with the ACSP, the aim is to popularize slam, as a tool for self-identification through a continental competition

In Africa, slam is part of the tradition of urban arts and culture/popular culture. However, it is still a young movement and is not fully developed. A real ecosystem of production, festivals and exhibitions for this art does not exist. The slam community has worked tirelessly to develop this field and has achieved exciting results. The International Festival ‘N’Djam s’enflamme en Slam’ held in October 2017 in Chad can be considered the largest slam event in the world, with more than 6,000

Please explain how your selected topic areas are influenced, in the local context of your project (1,000 characters).

The first step of the project is the organisation of the National cup in 34 countries. The national winners will be invited in Chad for continental competition. Given its diversified nature (several countries, regardless of sex or religion, etc.), this project aims to convey, through slam, a particular message to the different African youths about the realities of their daily lives ; one that can focus on difference, exclusion, racism, opposition, xenophobia or other conflicts. The last slam event which took place in Chad has registered 6000 entries in 5 days, more than 200 people participated in the workshop and debates. The evaluation of this event will be built on the same model: entries at the concerts, participation in workshop and debates, and the follow-up after the festival. Although the festival is geared to a young public, the experience shows that slam events do as well attract the older generations. It is therefore also a start of an intergenerational dialogue.
