Explain your project idea (2,000 characters)
Part of the reason the world feels so dangerous, so angry, and the injustices so great these days is that people are overwhelmed, leaving them with a sense of isolation and fear. They want to help, but they don't know where to start. The ActivateUs kit meets individuals and communities where they are, providing everything they need to take action to bridge the gaps in communities around such issues as climate change, reproductive justice, gun violence prevention, gender equality, women in the workplace, Black Lives Matter, and many other advocacy-focused topics.
Who are the beneficiaries? (1,000 characters)
Our beneficiaries are members of the community that wish to become socially engaged with ActivateUs as their tool of choice, to learn about social issues in the U.S. and take action. We are currently available in the U.S. with our guides focused on social issues that are part of Americans’ daily lives. Our beneficiaries are hard-working individuals who do not have the time to engage in day-off or in-person commitments to voice their opinions on an issue. Our beneficiaries are mothers, fathers, grandmothers, grandparents, students, teachers, and young professionals that wish to shape our current political climate, the future of coming generations, and our present reality through positive action and social engagement. Our subscribers to date are predominantly female, age 25-60, middle to upper-middle income bracket. We’d like to fund our initiative in order to make ActivateUs accessible for everyone in the community.
How is your idea unique? (1,000 characters)
ActivateUs meets people where they are in their activism experience, with everything they need to work for social justice. The program builds upon Circle of Health International’s (COHI) 14 years of crisis-management experience on behalf of women and children. We know how to do this: how to navigate tense terrain, have hard conversations, and show up for those most in need, especially on days and in places where it is hard to do so. That’s why we’ve created ActivateUs: COHI’s activism experience in a box, mailed directly to eager citizens, with easy steps to take action, stand up, and speak out. We believe our approach is more successful than other activism initiatives because we provide a vast range of material on different issues, explore complex subjects seamlessly and easy, and then equip citizens to take action. We aim to take a novel approach to conversation that ultimately leads to action, creating call-to-action guides that invite the community to participate.

In 3-4 sentences, tell us the inspiration or story that encouraged you to start this project.
In conversations with friends, family, and partners in this new political era, we’ve heard many are eager to become civically engaged. They just don’t quite know how. After the 2016 election, our donors contacted us saying, ‘We trust you. We want to do more than just send a check. We want to engage but are overwhelmed and don’t know where to start. Help!’ The ActivateUs kit is what we created in response.
Please explain how your selected topic areas are influenced, in the local context of your project (1,000 characters).
Our areas are influenced heavily by the current political climate, unrest, and instability in communities across the U.S. Peace has been harmed by the continuous attacks on communities of color. Prosperity has been impacted by ongoing violations to women’s health and by denying WOC a complete physical, mental, social and economic well-being. Our planet has been altered by our lifestyle resulting in climate change with consequences including refugee resettlement, migration, drought, hunger, war, and natural disasters. ActivateUs recognizes the interconnectedness of these issues and puts forward activism material needed to tackle these issues and lead Americans to use their energy in productive ways. Peace, prosperity, and the well-being of our planet are present in the local context of our project. With attacks on refugees and immigrants on a daily basis, the highest maternal mortality rate and the current administration denying global warming, ActivateUs couldn’t be more necessary.
Who will work alongside your organization in the project idea? (1,000 characters)
ActivateUs partners are involved in the production of our call-to-action guides. We are proud to navigate interactions with the brave grassroots organizations that serve their communities, as well as with our corporate and business partners. We currently have three levels of partnership: Contributor: in-kind donations, program-specific monetary donations; Collaborator: co-branded guides, events series, sponsorship; Preferred - Underwriters; presenting partners for ActivateUs programming. The most common type of partnership ActivateUs engages in is with collaborators willing to bring their expertise on particular subjects to co-author guides. (i.e. Menstrual Hygiene Education and Awareness ActivateUs kit with The Red Web Foundation, which connects and informs people about the menstrual cycle through education, awareness, and activism.) We work with sponsors in a variety of ways, and each partnership is specifically crafted to reflect our donor’s capacity interests, and needs.
Please share some of the top strengths identified in the community which your project will serve (500 characters)
The ActivateUs community consists of eager citizens living in conservative states wishing to create change in their hometowns. In an era when political change doesn't end with marches and protests, ActivateUs is ideal for young professionals and high school students who are doing their best to keep the momentum going, by constantly reminding their representatives that we're here, we want change, and we're not stopping until it happens.
ActivateUs targets U.S. citizens that wish to become politically activated members of the community.
How many months are required for the project idea? (500 characters)
24 months of ActivateUs production would allow us to create 10 call to action guides and keep updating previous guides with new activism material.
