Eats provinces straddles the boundary between Afghanistan’s eastern and central regions, with strong ties to both. It is a major hub of commerce, education, and culture on the Kabul-Kandahar Highway and one of Afghanistan’s most politically important provinces. Eats province population reflects its geographic location. Pashtuns, Tajik and Hazaras reside in the province in almost equal numbers, along with a significant and geographically dispersed Uzbuk minority and smaller minority ethnic groups clustered in the provincial center. The western half of the province is predominately Hazara and the eastern half predominately Pashtun, though both groups are found in varying numbers throughout. Although Pashtun tribes constitute a plurality, Eats Proinces’s population is split evenly between Pashto-speaking and Dari-speaking groups. Throughout Afghanistan, disputes with an ethnic bias dimension are among the most intractable, and Ghazni’s is one of the country’s most divided jurisdictions. There is very little meaningful communication between its segregated Pashtun and Hazara communities, and Ghazni is the site of inter-communal violence over political representation and resources. Young Hazaras and Pashtuns in Ghazni grow up in an environment of extreme segregation. They attend separate schools, worship in separate mosques, belong to mono-ethnic community organizations, speak two different languages at home, and seldom interact face to face outside of brief commercial exchanges in local markets1. To train 200 youth (100 females) from districts to be grassroots peace advocates over the course of a six-month activity that will include an inter-group dialogue retreat, six youth-led volunteer activities, and mentoring by peace,

the direct beneficiaries for one year will be the 22 program staff who will be employed under this activity, as well as the 200 youth trainees from community for 3 years will be 666. The indirect beneficiaries will be the the communities in which the 60 youth trainees live and work as grassroots peace advocates

How is your idea unique? (1,000 characters)

This grant will support the development of an inter-ethnic and mixed gender team of 200 grassroots youth peace advocates in community over the course of a 2 years advocacy and community service pilot activity. Assisted by local teachers, youth associations, elders, and district government officials, WEMO will select an ethnically balanced group of approximately 60 young people (at least 25 females) between the ages of 16 and 30 to participate in a week-long inter-group dialogue retreat held in Kabul. To facilitate the participation of female youth, young women selected for the retreats will be permitted to bring mahrams (male family members) if necessary. WEMO will work toward achieving gender parity among the retreat participants and will employ a female Field Coordinator to recruit female youth. Situation in Afghanistan demands for cooperative work that will involve many stakeholders. WEMO is aiming for joint venture where it will engage with different stakeholders, Government authorities, Minister of education and CSO’S that work for the development of peace and the involvement of the community itself in developmental works during the design of project involved Government staff, rural youth, community leaders and same expertise activists in peace section and etc WMO will ensure the involvement of the related authorities during the selection of trainees and instructors and other key issues, WMO aims at the unity of the people and is wishes unanimity of views that will bring long lasting peace and stability in the region. Dear Mujahed,
This is interesting. Though we try this is not easy to educate and change those stakeholders. How do you feel about the use of open source software solutions and to connect those stakeholders and especially the youth to build their knowledge and skills through interesting ways. I am not sure the level of smartphone usage and the availability of the interest. If it is good then the use of ICT will also be a way to bridge them and I too would like to contribute in this regard. Looking forward to hear from you. Good Luck
