SLMM-Providing livelihood and scholarships for the less fortunate communities.
We help homeless and informal settlers.
Explain your project idea (2,000 characters)
We are the Scalabrinian Lay Movement-Manila. We are under the Congregation of the Missionaries of St Charles Borromeo-an international community of consecrated men and women who are called to proclaim the Good News to migrants, refugees and seafarers and to defend their rights and promote a more humane society for them. Founded last February 5,2017,our organization started with only ten (10) members-from student to senior citizens-and we are from different municipalities within Metro Manila. Now, we have 25 members. We met each other through social media and through some friends.
In our first three outreaches,we distributed food, clothings and hygiene kits to the homeless on the streets of Manila. We raised fund through selling rosary bracelets and asking donations to friends, colleagues and classmates. Then our succeeding activities were on the communities of informal settlers.
Given resources and enough fund,we want to further help the kids to have access to education through scholarships and livelihood trainings and seminars to the unemployed. As to the homeless on the streets,we want to give them assistance and refer them to the local authorities for them to be included in housing programs of the government.

Please explain how your selected topic areas are influenced, in the local context of your project (1,000 characters).
Both the aforementioned communities are peaceful even if they belong to informal settlers. The one in San Juan is regularly visited by Dominican Sisters and do Cathechism with kids. The other one in Quezon City is near the Scalabrinian Theology House so once a month Scalabrinians celebrate Holy Mass with them. They are also allowed to have activities in the Theology House if they need a place like during Christmas Season or Holy Week.
Our works also have impacts to Scalabrinians students who come from various countries.Since they will be missionaries to different parts of the world, they are learning a lot by engaging in our activities. We are also learning from them because during our meetings, some of them share their culture and the organizations in their countries who do similar works to us.
Education and livelihood can really help these communities to have better lives and better future especially the children.
