Explain your project idea (2,000 characters)

Techbello ICT Solutions internship program is a purposeful and systematic arrangement designed by Techbello ICT Solutions to enroll youths into its workforce on a temporary basis with the intention of giving them an opportunity to experience ICT in a real world business environment. They are expected to acquire hands on experience in handling ICT equipment, troubleshooting and learn to be productive and innovative in ICT environment. It is our hope that this initiative would help alleviate the unemployment problem that is hurting the country. When youths get the feel of the real business environment they are more confident in their efforts to find work or start their own businesses. Interns enjoy the benefit of learning from experienced ICT experts. They acquire useful experience relating to the ICT industry and the business environment. At Techbello ICT Solutions interns also enjoy the opportunity of meeting prospective employers. This is because our clients include recognized businesses and NGO’s. The interns will have the opportunity to network with this people and improve their job prospects on the market. In the real world networking is an indispensable component in the process of securing employment.

Who are the beneficiaries? (1,000 characters)

Beneficiaries are young people who have just completed their basic education and are planning to go for further studies or are looking for work. This program especially targets those youths within our community. Our internship program is designed to equip them with useful ICT skills which they would need at university. The practical experience in the business environment would also give them confidence and skills in finding employment.

How is your idea unique? (1,000 characters)

Our idea is unique because we are the only firm in our community that has an active internship program targeting the youth and does not expect to be paid by the interns. Our program is free and merit based. In fact we do not know of any other company or organisation that has a similar program in our country (Malawi, Africa).

In 3-4 sentences, tell us the inspiration or story that encouraged you to start this project.

There is high unemployment among young people in the country. They struggle to find work because, among others, companies demand experience which the youths don't have. Through its internship program, Techbello ICT Solutions believes it can bridge that gap by equipping the youth with the experience they need to find employment.

Please explain how your selected topic areas are influenced, in the local context of your project (1,000 characters).

Planet and Prosperity: By helping ease unemployment among the youth we are contributing to economic development in the community. Unemployment perpetuates poverty. When more youths get employed they are financially secure and more likely to enjoy better quality of life. this in return translates to a better economy at national level.

Hi Temwa Mzota

It was great to read about your work! Our organization also supports ICT skills training, at no cost, to local youth. (We're in the Central Region of Ghana). I am interested to learn more about the impact of your internship program. How many of your interns who complete the program are placed in jobs afterward? Also, how do you select your interns? Our target groups are for vulnerable youth, who may not have completed schooling.

Great work!

Hi Nicole Ballou
I am so glad that you like our idea and I like it that you are doing something similar. We are just starting out so the impact is obviously small for now. We have had over 6 youths go through our internship program so far. Two of them found better jobs afterwards. Another two became our employees. Others went for further studies. But this is just the beginning, as funding becomes available and as we grow our company I believe we will be able to benefit more youths. Our selection criteria does not look at social status, this means all young people who have completed basic schooling (secondary school education) can apply to join our internship program.
As you can see, our goal is to reduce unemployment among the youths, we are therefore open to all hardworking youths in our community. I believe this idea if adopted by other companies across Africa we can see an improvement in terms of economic development on the continent.

Hi Temwa Mzota !

Thank for sharing more about your project. It sounds like you all have had quite a bit of success with placing interns after they completed your program.

Best of luck!
