Community Dialogue for Peace
A dialogue to share views, reach consensus, have common goal and mutual collaboration between communities in Bari region of Somalia.
A community dialogue session participated by the different groups of youth, women, elders, religious imams, authorities and intellectuals to end disputes of pastoral families over grassing land in Benderbayla district of Bari region of Somalia.
It was lengthy process led by elders to understand the case, different interests and view points, get consent of parties, creating platform to discuss issue openly and reach common solution.

Somalia has been in chaotic situation for over two decades since fall of government in 1991, that resulted civil unrest, disruption of social services of education and health, economic downturn, social disintegration and never ending foes of communities across the country.
The country is most fragile state in Africa, while it become fertile ground for piracy, corruption, terrorist hub in east Africa. With funding from International communities neighboring African countries sent over twenty two thousand peace keeping force to combat Al-shabab terrorist groups, build capacity of Somali army and help federal government institutions to operate safety in Mogadishu the capital.
Recurrent droughts for every two to three years, floods, wide spread malnutrition and disease outbreaks have become the order of the day. Despite natural and man-made calamities, the social disintegration and unending foes fuels periodical fighting, clashes, disputes and conflicting views that are difficult to harmonize.
The project aims to instill culture dialogue , openness, agreeing and disagreeing views without violence, reaching consensus and helping communities to hasten peace building process. The project will be built on existing communities structures and traditional peace approach, but with use of modern approach of evidence based decision making and problem solving skills.
The community dialogue for peace initiative will be implemented to two districts of Benderbayla and Gardo, where communities are depend on fishing or pastoral lifestyle respectively. The project will undertake capacity building of different community groups including elders, youth, women, Imams and intellectual groups. communities will be empowered to organize themselves on conducting dialogues to solve their challenges with use of their own resources and capacities.
The overall aim of the project will be to deepen peace among communities in Bari Region of Puntland state of Somalia.

Project will be targeting social groups including elders, youth, women, imams and influential groups of communities in Benderbayla and Gardo districts of Beri Region of Puntland Somalia.
Youth groups will be specifically targeted to build their capacity to initiate and foster peace initiatives within their communities

Community dialogue for peace initiative is grassroots initiative to learn from communities best practices, building on their positive traditional approach and empower them with modern strategies that proven success globally.
The advantage of implement this is by Deegaan Development Foundation(DDF) is that our organization is local with extensive presence in the area, have talented, competent and committed staff to serve advancing peace of their communities.
Community dialogue for peace initiative is effective way to create societies that are collaborating, dealing with their differences in harmony without undermining others, appreciating diversity of clans, social groups, ideology and working toward common development agendas. The success of this project overweight its investment by focusing to address the underlying causes of social backwardness that hamper the development agendas.

Deegaan Development Foundation (DDF) is a local non-profit, non govermental organization registered in Puntland State of Somalia. The establishment of DDF aims at to assist poor and underprivileged groups of Somali community to improve quality of life by initiating provision of protection and assistance services, advocating before donors, implementing agencies and government departments as well as participating in responses of relief, rehabilitation and development works.

i have born a desert like pastoral areas of Dhudo village of Bederbayla district of Bari region of Somalia. i have grown and learned the primary school in Dhuudo village. I remember that hey day of my childhood used to see that people were collaborative with diversity clan base. The village was economy and social life was flourishing due to being peaceful to all, but by its economic sources of exchanging the livestock and its products , Myrah(caw) to be made of mats and open trade.

Peace among social groups and communities needs to create forums to discuss and agree or disagree without violence. The community dialogue for peace is open forum to encourage exchange of ideas, creating cultures of accepting differing view and working in harmony.
Who will work alongside your organization in the project idea? (1,000 characters)
The local authorities will be supportive to this initiative, as weak security enforcement is main challenges that government has limited capacity to handle. Such dialogue will fill the gap of absence of grass root level community peace initiative.
