Explain your project idea (2,000 characters)

Through the delivery of an intensive two day in-person program, Change Shapers aims to: EMPOWER young people to be change shapers by bettering understanding concepts of power, their ability to influence and through learning social activism skills. SHAPE positive social change in local communities by strengthening community voices and increasing the diversity of these voices to include migrants and young people. INTEGRATE migrants into their local communities by creating opportunities for migrants and local citizens to learn from one another and their diverse skills, experiences and backgrounds The Change Shapers program achieves these aims by taking participants through three stages, each building upon one another: 1: Leadership & Personal Empowerment – Participants explore and develop insights into their personal skills and attributes, and how these can be leveraged to lead change. 2: How Change is Shaped – Participants learn the principles of social activism, advocacy and gain an understanding of power structures and how to influence them. 3: Making Business Social - Participants understand how to capitalise on opportunities to leverage businesses and corporations to shape positive social change. The program culminates with an ‘ideas incubator’, where participants develop their own idea for shaping positive social change in their local community with the support of an experienced team.

Who are the beneficiaries? (1,000 characters)

Change Shapers is serving young people from local community and migrant backgrounds all around the world. The first ever Change Shapers program is being held in Thessaloniki, Greece in June 2018 and the second in Siem Reap, Cambodia in August 2018. To be eligible, participants need to be: - 35 years or younger - A local community citizen OR a migrant, refugee or asylum seeker - Based permanently in the country where the program is operating - Able to confidently communicate in English (written and spoken). - Eager to develop themselves, be inspired to shape positive change in their community and open to learning from others.

How is your idea unique? (1,000 characters)

Currently, there are countless causes that young people are passionate about, however very few tools and resources available to help young people actually create the positive change they wish to see, and nothing (that we have come across so far) as specific as an intensive training program which brings together diverse participants from both local community and migrant background. We believe that the diversity of lived experiences in the room will add an incredible special and unique element to the program.

Idea Proposal Stage (choose one)

  • Pilot: I have started to implement the idea as a whole with a first set of real users.

Tell us more about your organization/company (1 sentence and website URL)

Like our participants, we are also young and incredibly passionate about creating change, and have a skilled group of people behind us wanting us to succeed, and a big bundle of energy

Expertise in sector

  • 5-7 years

Organization Filing Status

  • No, but we plan to register in the future.

In 3-4 sentences, tell us the inspiration or story that encouraged you to start this project.

I have been working with refugees and asylum seekers in my career for a long time now, and in many parts of the world. Throughout this, I have seen how dis-empowering the feeling of 'not being able to do anything to help' improve situations can be, both in local and migrant communities. I want to change that, and help people realise they do have the power to create positive social change.

Please explain how your selected topic areas are influenced, in the local context of your project (1,000 characters).

Peace, Prosperity and the Planet are all heavily connected to the issues that young people care about today, and want to create positive social change in. Therefore I believe Change Shapers will have an impact across all of these themes (and more!).

Who will work alongside your organization in the project idea? (1,000 characters)

We have an developing team of individuals and organisations behind us so far, and are developing new partnerships each day. Here is a summary of the 'official' ones so far...

Please share some of the top strengths identified in the community which your project will serve (500 characters)

Resilience, compassion, passion!

Geographic Focus

Thessaloniki, Greece - first program. June 2018 Siem Reap, Cambodia - second program, August 2018

How many months are required for the project idea? (500 characters)

My hope is that we could go GLOBAL and run programs in every continent in this time frame!

Hi Kyla

Thanks for putting this into the bridgebuilder challenge mix. I see you just added this idea so it is still not have all the details you might be trying to add before the deadline. As you finalize this concept before the deadline I would think of adding some issues around any follow-up with the changemakers and if their is any support given to "winning" ideas, etc. Since you have already done this in Greece, it would be great to hear what kind of ideas where developed and if what type of impact the initial ChangeMakers are having in their communities because of your programming.

P.s. I love Seam Reap, I go there 2-3 times a year as I am doing my PHD there.... it is such a creative and innovative city, I am sure you will have so many good ideas coming out of there in August. Good luck. Angi.
