Community Analysis

Before starting projects or a petition, every community must complete either a SWOT Analysis or a Vulnerability and Capacity Assessment (VCA). A Guide to prepare said analysis will be viewed by each individual member of the community. And that Analysis must be endorsed by minimum 51% of a poll within the community, by using the platform.  Other affiliate /integrated communities are able to see the status of community Analysis, petitions and projects opened for contribution or donation. At the completion of SWOT or VCA, Volunteers and Philanthropic initiatives are able to assist in preparing the project, prior to opening for donations. Everyone will be able to view the status and involvement of Volunteers and Philanthropic initiatives in completing the process.

Community Problems - Vulnerability Assessment

Problems are Vulnerabilities in the community. A vulnerability has many dimensions – economic, social, demographic, political/institutional and psychological – that affect people’s susceptibility to environmental hazards, in addition to their physical exposure to the hazards themselves. It is influenced by a number of factors, at different levels from the community level to the global. It is also dynamic, changing under the pressure of these many different forces.

Vulnerability and Capacity Analysis (VCA) identifies the factors that make them vulnerable, how they are affected and their needs and capacities, and ensures that projects, programs, and policies address these needs.

VCA views vulnerability in the broadest sense and therefore tries (where possible) to consider a wide range of environmental, economic, social, cultural, institutional and political pressures. It also considers the capacities, resources, and assets people use to resist, cope with and recover from disasters and other external shocks.

Operationally, VCA is used as a diagnostic tool (to understand problems and their underlying causes), a planning tool (to priorities and sequence actions and inputs), a risk assessment tool (to help assess specific risks) and a tool for empowering and mobilizing vulnerable communities. VCA can be applied at many different levels, and program to community and household.

Economic and political factors often determine people’s level of vulnerability and the strength of their capacity to resist, cope and recover. The vulnerability is generally greater where poverty and/or inadequate social protection make people less capable of resisting hazards. Work on poverty reduction is, therefore, vital. In addition, disasters often undermine efforts at reducing poverty and set back the progress already achieved.

Assessment of Planning

  • Planning the VCA.
  • Preparation phase.
  • Using the investigation tools with the community.
  • Systematizing, analyzing and interpreting the data.
  • Returning information to the community and deciding priorities and actions for transformation.

Planning to Action

  • Turn vulnerabilities into capacities through practical actions.
  • Recommendations and report writing for local authorities, donors, and partners.
  • programmed implementation: risk reduction projects with the community.

Philanthropic initiatives

Individual who completed personal profile can fill a Philanthropic initiative as an organization or institution. Philanthropic initiatives are able to contribute the communities in any field or cause after communities completing their SWOT or VCA. When Analysis is completed by a community, the platform will disseminate an invitation/ alert /Massage to matching Philanthropic initiative. So when a Philanthropic initiative accepts the invitation, the requested community will get a list of Philanthropic initiative interested to participate in a community project/cause/petition.  Also, history of donations Philanthropic initiative can be viewed.

Explain your idea

Our Objective is to protect life and health and to ensure respect for the human being. It promotes mutual understanding, friendship, cooperation, justice and lasting peace amongst all peoples. Impartiality, it makes no discrimination as to nationality, race, religious beliefs, class or political opinions. It endeavors to relieve the suffering of individuals, being guided solely by their needs, and to give priority to the most urgent vulnerable cases. This will improve the lives of vulnerable people by mobilizing the power of humanity. Our platform will be branded as “Unite Hand”. www.unitehand.com The platform will facilitate to support individual’s aspiration to transform themselves and their communities, for inclusion, social justice and equality with a way of life. All communities have equal status and share equal responsibilities and duties in helping each other, is worldwide. The Platform will be promoting ideas of capacity building within the communities through self-solutions. Also, this platform will facilitate networking among Community Initiators, Volunteers, and Philanthropic initiatives. The platform will transform the isolated communities into communities of strength, through collaboration in national, regional, and global level as in figure 1. The platform will facilitate to identify their vulnerabilities and capacities themselves by mapping the resources from their communities or neighboring or regional or global communities. Also by the platform, community initiators (users) will be able to recognize common problems or vulnerabilities or capacities. This will help communities to share their experiences, and resources or capacities to make happen the change they need through planning community projects by the help of volunteers/consultants and philanthropic initiatives (individual/organization/donators). To that end, one community with very vulnerable or fewer capacity features may be integrated with a community with less vulnerability and more capacity. For Example: 1. A vulnerable Community in Eretria can be integrated/joined with a community France, or Canada to find a solution for a problem identified (vulnerability) by sourcing the resources from France or USA or any other global community. The platform will facilitate to identify their vulnerabilities and capacities themselves as in figure 2,3 or 4. And communities can identify more problems or unique problems to make happen a change. Also, all problems must be passed by minimum 51% of the online poll using the platform. Then, Platform will show the real-time updates of such votes and problems. Also, they will be able to start a project to solve the problem (vulnerability) by finding resources through the platform.

Who Benefits?

Our Platform will not be concentrated on particular issues or problems in a community, but we design the platform to cater the users, individuals, and communities, to identify the problems, vulnerabilities, weaknesses, threats, strengths, opportunities, capacities and risks related to political, environmental, social and economic factors in a community. This will help communities to identify the root causes of issues and the solution for those issues, by themselves, by collaborating volunteers, consultants and charity initiatives. This platform will benefit, individuals by bridging as a community, in local, national, regional and global level. Especially, the platform will help vulnerable individuals, families, communities for transform themselves from vulnerability to capacity. The communities will be given the option of affiliating with other communities, locally/regional/globally.

How is your idea unique?

Our idea is unique; by the way, we approach for the solutions through our platform. And by the way, we have been promoting ideas of capacity building within the communities through self-solutions. This will facilitate individual community members to identify their vulnerabilities and capacities to make happen the change they need.

Thanks for commenting on our idea.
Our Idea has a great relationship with other global goals. Especially, Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), andSustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have a remarkabe relationship to the objectives of our idea.
The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) were the eight international development goals for the year 2015 that had been established following the Millennium Summit of the United Nations in 2000, following the adoption of the United Nations Millennium Declaration. All 189 United Nations member states at that time, and at least 22 international organizations, committed to helping achieve the following Millennium Development Goals by 2015:

To eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
To achieve universal primary education
To promote gender equality and empower women
To reduce child mortality
To improve maternal health
To combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases
To ensure environmental sustainability
To develop a global partnership for development

The Millennium Development Goals are a UN initiative.
Each goal had specific targets, and dates for achieving those targets. To accelerate progress, the G8 finance ministers agreed in June 2005 to provide enough funds to the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the African Development Bank (AfDB) to cancel $40 to $55 billion in debt owed by members of the heavily indebted poor countries (HIPC) to allow them to redirect resources to programs for improving health and education and for alleviating poverty.

As of 2013, progress towards the goals was uneven. Some countries achieved many goals, while others were not on track to realize any. A UN conference in September 2010 reviewed progress to date and adopted a global plan to achieve the eight goals by their target date. New commitments targeted women's and children's health, and new initiatives in the worldwide battle against poverty, hunger, and disease.

MDGs derive from earlier development targets, where world leaders adopted the United Nations Millennium Declaration. The approval of the Millennium Declaration was the main outcome of the Millennium Summit.

The MDGs originated from the United Nations Millennium Declaration. The Declaration asserted that every individual has dignity; and hence, the right to freedom, equality, a basic standard of living that includes freedom from hunger and violence and encourages tolerance and solidarity. The MDGs set concrete targets and indicators for poverty reduction in order to achieve the rights set forth in the Declaration.

Human capital, infrastructure, and human rights
The MDGs emphasized three areas: human capital, infrastructure and human rights (social, economic and political), with the intent of increasing living standards.[5] Human capital objectives include nutrition, healthcare (including child mortality, HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, and reproductive health) and education. Infrastructure objectives include access to safe drinking water, energy, and modern information/communication technology; increased farm outputs using sustainable practices; transportation; and the environment. Human rights objectives include empowering women, reducing violence, increasing political voice, ensuring equal access to public services and increasing security of property rights. The goals were intended to increase an individual’s human capabilities and "advance the means to a productive life". The MDGs emphasize that each nation's policies should be tailored to that country's needs; therefore most policy suggestions are general.

Partnership
MDGs emphasize the role of developed countries in aiding developing countries, as outlined in Goal Eight, which sets objectives and targets for developed countries to achieve a "global partnership for development" by supporting fair trade, debt relief, increasing aid, access to affordable essential medicines and encouraging technology transfer. Thus developing nations ostensibly became partners with developed nations in the struggle to reduce world poverty.

Hi, Hassan Ismail,

This reply is followed by our last reply on the comment. there we have mentioned about the relationship of our goals with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), officially known as Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is a set of 17 "Global Goals" with 169 targets between them. Spearheaded by the United Nations through a deliberative process involving its 193 Member States, as well as global civil society, the goals are contained in paragraph 54 United Nations Resolution A/RES/70/1 of 25 September 2015. The Resolution is a broader intergovernmental agreement that acts as the Post 2015 Development Agenda (successor to the Millennium Development Goals). The SDGs build on the Principles agreed upon under Resolution A/RES/66/288, popularly known as The Future We Want.

The SDGs were in large measure informed by the often quoted assertion by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon that "we don’t have plan B because there is no planet B".

On 19 July 2014, the UN General Assembly's Open Working Group (OWG) on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) forwarded a proposal for the SDGs to the Assembly. The proposal contained 17 goals with 169 targets covering a broad range of sustainable development issues. These included ending poverty and hunger, improving health and education, making cities more sustainable, combating climate change, and protecting oceans and forests.[4] On 5 December 2014, the UN General Assembly accepted the Secretary-General's Synthesis Report which stated that the agenda for the post-2015 SDG process would be based on the OWG proposals.

The Intergovernmental Negotiations on the Post 2015 Development Agenda (IGN) began in January 2015 and ended in August 2015. Following the negotiations, a final document was adopted at the UN Sustainable Development Summit September 25–27, 2015 in New York, USA. The title of the agenda is Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

On 25 September 2015, the 194 countries of the UN General Assembly adopted the 2030 Development Agenda titled Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Following the adoption, UN agencies under the umbrella of the United Nations Development Group decided to support an independent campaign to help communicate the agreed Sustainable Development Goals to a wider constituency. Known as Project Everyone,[17] the independent campaign introduced the term Global Goals and was supported by corporate institutions and other International Organizations. Because this decision was made without the approval of the member states, it met resistance.[18] In addition, several sections of civil society and governments felt[19] the UNDG ignored "sustainability," even though it was the most important aspect of the agreement. That the term "Global Goals" also refers to several other processes not related to the United Nations was another concern.

Hi, Mohamed Nizam,

Thanks for commenting our idea.

Yes, the members of the communities include Volunteers as they are a resource in each community. And our platform will encourage the inclusion of volunteerism in communities at each stage of development, to change towards the peace and prosperity.

Our team needs more feedbacks and comments for more improvement of our idea. In our opinion, commenting and giving feedbacks is unavoidable during all stages of development and implementation.

Community service involvement is important because volunteering teaches people of all ages and backgrounds compassion and understanding. volunteering and putting on service events can be used as a way to advocate for causes that you are personally passionate about.

Service to others means being unselfish, it means doing something for someone else without expecting any reward or gain. Service to others, to me, also means helping people out when they cannot complete a task by themselves.
we found that:
-Volunteering makes a significant contribution to the global economy

- Volunteering enhances the social connections between different sectors, builds the
bridges for governments, enterprises, and employees

- Volunteering helps build a more cohesive, safer, stronger community, increase the social
the network between communities and neighborhood

-Volunteering promotes people to be more active in civic engagement and concerned of
citizenship

-Volunteering delivers some part of public services, encouraging more people to work in public section, helping raise the educational performance of youth, leading environmental
movement and adapting to climate change risk

-Volunteering also have positive effects on volunteers as individuals, increase their self-esteem,
-enhance various skills and capacities, expand career paths and be healthier, physically and mentally.

Hi Whyte Developers!

Welcome to the challenge. I want to check I understand your project proposal. This is an online platform for communities to collaborate to solve problems and it is part of a CSR project conceived by a property development company in the Maldives that is mainly focused on the luxury high-end market which takes into account environmental sustainability and energy-saving. Is that correct or have I misunderstood the project?

Photo of Whyte Developers

Thank you for accepting our team invitation. Yes, we are a property development company in Maldives, and we are developing this idea as part of our Community Social Responsibilty.

Our project is focused on developing an online platform, to to identify the problems, vulnerabilities, weaknesses, threats, strengths, opportunities, capacities and risks related to political, environmental, social and economic factors in a community.

This will help communities to identify the root causes of issues and the solution for those issues, by themselves, by collaborating volunteers, consultants and charity initiatives.

PROBLEM & SOLUTION

The problem comes first; the solutions comes next. Leaving a problem as a problem creates the resistance for peace and prosperity in a community. Problems are negative forces in a community, that can be transformed into a positive force to create positive results. Solving is the act of identifying a problem; defining the cause of the problem; classifying, prioritizing and selecting alternatives for a solution; and implementing a solution.

1. Identifying a problem or Issue
Diagnose the situation so that your focus is the problem, not just its symptoms. Helpful techniques at this stage include using flowcharts to identify the expected steps of a process and cause-and-effect diagrams to define and analyze root causes.
The problems chart identifies key steps for defining problems. These steps support the involvement of Stakeholders in the community, the use of factual information, comparison of expectations to reality and a focus on root causes of a problem. What’s needed is to:
• Situational Analysis-Review and note how processes currently work (who does what, with what information, using what tools, communicating with what parties and individuals, in what time frame, using what format, etc).
• Evaluate the possible impact of new tools and revised strategies in the development of a model of “what should be.”

2. Generate alternative solutions
Postpone the selection of one solution until several alternatives have been proposed. Having a standard with which to compare the characteristics of the final solution is not the same as defining the desired result. A standard allows us to evaluate the different intended results offered by alternatives by the stakeholders. When you try to build toward desired results, it’s very difficult to collect good information about the process.

Considering multiple alternatives can significantly enhance the value of your final solution. Once the team or individual has decided the “what should be” model, this target standard becomes the basis for developing a road map for investigating alternatives. Brainstorming and team problem-solving techniques are both useful tools in this stage of problem-solving.
Many alternative solutions should be generated before evaluating any of them. A common mistake in problem-solving is that alternatives are evaluated as they are proposed, so the first acceptable solution is chosen, even if it’s not the best fit. If we focus on trying to get the results we want, we miss the potential for learning something new that will allow for real improvement.

3. Evaluate and select an alternative
Skilled problem solvers use a series of considerations when selecting the best alternative. They consider the extent to which:
• A particular alternative will solve the problem without causing other unanticipated problems.
• All the individuals involved and included will accept the alternative.
• Implementation of the alternative is likely.
• The alternative fits within the community constraints.

4. Implement and follow up on the Issue identified
Promote the solution to other individual and communities or facilitate the implementation by involving the efforts of individual and communities. The most effective approach, by far, has been to involve individual and communities in the implementation as a way of minimizing resistance to subsequent changes.

Feedback channels must be built into the implementation of the solution, to produce continuous monitoring and testing of actual events against expectations. Problem-solving and the techniques used to derive elucidation can only be effective in an organization if the solution remains in place and is updated to respond to future changes.
