The Social Exchange
Our vision is to bake social impact into every transaction.
There must be a better way to exchange value with brands.
Explain your idea
Our goal is to explore the feasibility of a social enterprise business model we are calling "Pick-Shop-Support" as a way of achieving our vision of incorporating social impact into every financial transaction.
Browse and select a social impact cause from a set of crowdfunding campaigns that are organized according to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) as a taxonomy. Each campaign will be in support of a cause/initiative that fits a particular SDG.
Purchase goods from our partner brands using their existing e-commerce websites. We will partner both with brands that are looking to extend an already developed social impact portfolio to include the custom goals of their consumers, and with brands who are still figuring out what they want their impact to be.
A portion of your purchase will be donated to the specific cause you have selected by the brand on your behalf. The products/services you buy will not cost extra. Instead, we will negotiate a predetermined percentage with each brand that will be explicitly stated and included in the original price.
The Social Exchange will provide a platform for socially conscious millennials to purchase goods online and support a (crowd-funding) cause with each transaction. This market is tech savvy and has a high comfort level purchasing goods online.
This solution would provide economic but also societal benefit by both catalyzing commercial activity but also directing funds to social and environmental causes.
The eventual goal of this solution is to bake social impact into every transaction, at the point of purchase.
How is your idea unique?
This initiative addresses the need for investment into social innovation by harnessing e-commerce to direct funding into these areas. Currently, 1-for-1 model offerings deliver goods that are sub-par (TOMS shoes are the best example of quality) – while they offer the opportunity to generate a positive impact, the cause is prescribed, so consumers must support the causes that are pre-selected. Instead, the Social Exchange will offer a platform where they can select the causes they care about, specifically, and purchase the specific items they want as well.
