Our world is seeing the divides between people become wider and deeper. There is evidence of a growing middle class in many parts of the world, but the gap between the rich and poor is still significant. This social inequity can result in tension and violence across class, race and cultural lines.
Cultivating prosperity by promoting understanding across these divides is critical. Reducing income disparity is not about “giving up” something or “giving to” someone, but rather “giving for” the greater good.
To further clarify this Opportunity Area, here is an example of an initiative aligned with bridging peace and prosperity: Chancen:reich connects refugees and displaced peoples with economic opportunity after regional conflict. Note that this example is not meant to be limiting, and successful proposals might look very different. Instead, it offers a tangible case that represents bridging work across these topics.
