EXPLAIN YOUR IDEA

This ideas works in diverse ways. Depending on the type of harvest the farmer will do a monthly review of produce to ascertain that pets from farm land did not accompanied or curropt his other harvest. It is normal for pets to be introduced into a bungu by means of human error, hence a review is carried our to seperate the pauls from the banabases. The bungu helps farmers without finance or advance technology storage facilities to quickly store their produce through time and to avoide wastage or selling at a cheaper price. Remember the higher the supply of local produce in a particular season or time the lower the prices for such produce. So the idea is to hold on inventory untill demands becomes effective or a new planting season emerge.

WHO BENEFITS?

The benefits of bunga is particular to rural communities and house holds members with constrained elements like quality infrastructures.

WHERE WILL YOUR IDEA BE IMPLEMENTED?

Nigeria, all Northern state withour heavy rain faill

ARE YOU IMPLEMENTING IN AN ELIGIBLE COUNTRY?

  • Yes

EXPERTISE IN SECTOR

  • I’ve worked in a sector related to my idea for less than one year

EXPERIENCE IN IMPLEMENTATION COUNTRY(IES)

  • Yes, for more than one year.

TELL US MORE ABOUT YOU!

An organization looking for collaborator and based in Nigeria particularly Benue state. working with younger innovators in a similar field.

Using clay soil and water wthout any form of electricity but sun energy, a bunga or rumbu is constructed in a concave form of different sizes, Bunga is constructed like a traditional put with  a bottle neck and cover  that allows for access to fill in any type of harvest till the next season. depending on the anticipated farm produce abunga can be built to accommodate a trailer load of farm poducts.

Due to the nature of a clay soil, and its ability to maintain cool temperature all farm produce remains secured for a period on one year.

While some call it BUNGA some call it RUMBU like in KANO state of Nigeria.

Pot (mud, thatch) field handling to storage excludes rodents, birds, rain, wild fire but not theft. Pots breath to mitigate condensation caused by temperature fluctuations (day vs night). However, Pots offer good IPM only if they have previously been fumigated to control insects hibernating in the mud walls. Flexible capacity for field handling to storage is good because Pots can store cobs, groundnuts in the shell and sacks. However, the manual cleaning, maintenance and IPM required / tonne of storage is high and typically manual (sometimes mechanical) loading or unloading reduces the effects of fumigation. Pots are poorly suited to field handling to storage because the locations are fixed and it is difficult to scale capacity where it is needed, and growers are not likely to invest the effort needed to invest maintenance, IPM and capital if they consider storage too risky.
