EXPLAIN YOUR IDEA

The idea is the transformation of the grasshoppers industry from collection in the wild into a new agriculture branch. This will solve several problems: 1. Lack of protein in locals diet - Reducing grasshoppers cost by at least 50% will make them available for all. 2. Limited seasonal availability of grasshoppers as a source of food - Increasing grasshopper's availability from 4-6 weeks a year to 12 months a year. 3. Replace unhealthy unsustainable animal source protein - Significantly limit Methane emissions (by over 99%!), Water usage (by over 99%!) and arable land usage (by over 99%!). 4. Increase smallholder farmers income. 5. Improve shelf life of grasshopper's protein from 24 hours to 2 years by processing grasshoppers into nutrient rich protein powder.

WHO BENEFITS?

Our main goal is to implement and establish grasshopper farms across Africa, starting with East-African markets. The farms will be managed and operated by women who will be provided the required training by us. We expect the following benefits from the project: 1. Empower local women - provided with the training and a solid income source. 2. Children and families - ensuring food security and as a result securing their healthy development. 3. African countries - limiting reliance on import.

WHERE WILL YOUR IDEA BE IMPLEMENTED?

We plan to establish and implement our grasshoppers farms all over Africa starting in East African countries: Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan, Tanzania and Rwanda.

TELL US MORE ABOUT YOU!

Steak TzarTzar is an Israeli based startup founded by 3 individuals that share the same vision of improving the world for our children by providing them better health through better nutrition. We are looking to collaborate with local East-African partners that share our vision.

With the expected 70% rise in demand for animal source protein over the next decades, and with existing animal source protein taking a big toll on the environment, there is a need for alternative proteins that are healthy, sustainable, and affordable for populations around the globe. In recent years, insects have become recognized as a leading alternative protein source.

Grasshoppers Offer Many Advantages over Other Protein Sources:
1. Superior nutrient content as compared to other animal source protein and other insects; enhanced by their vegetarian diet.
2. A sustainable source of protein: 20X more sustainable than beef.

Today, grasshoppers are already the world's most widely eaten insect. However, they are mostly collected in the wild and have limited seasonal availability. Due to the high demand and limited availability grasshopper's market prices skyrocketing.

Steak TzarTzar developed technologies and methods to grow commercial quantities of grasshoppers at affordable costs. The company is developing smallholder farmer kits that will enable East-African farmers to year-round grow grasshoppers while improving their families diet as well as their household income by selling excess grasshoppers.

Steak TzarTzar's innovation prevents significant food waste as it spreads grasshopper's availability from 4-6 weeks only to entire year, enabling farmers offer fresh grasshoppers.

Further steps being developed is a processing plant that will be able to absorb unsold grasshoppers while securing farmers income and processing the grasshoppers into high nutrient protein powder with up to 2 years shelf life.

Great idea when consumers realize where honey comes from and relatively easy to implement. So team with a psychologist and determine how to inspire each countries President to be seen on TV eating Steak TzarTzar and you will have Development beating a path to your door.
