My Idea is to construct cold storage using a local technology to help farmers reduce post harvest losses of their fresh produce. The idea shall reduce poverty among smallholder farmers and also ensure food security.

This cold storage facility shall be constructed at a ware house whereby the fresh produce from local cold storage facilities can be kept for a longer period This cold storage facility shall be constructed at a ware house whereby the fresh produce from local cold storage facilities can be kept for a longer period

50% of fresh produce in Masaka district is lost due to lack of cold storage facilities and farmers are forced to sell their fresh produce at give away prices because they cant store them.

I want to work with farmers and we develop the local technology which uses sandwiched wall with grass which can give cold storage up to 10% for a week. Then we shall have bigger cold storage facility in town which uses electricity  which can keep bigger volumes of produce before it is taken to the market .

The local storage facilities shall be used at the collection centers from where trucks shall collect them and deliver them to a central 

ware house where sorting, grading and packaging shall be carried out. At the ware house a modern cold storage facility shall be available to store the produce for a longer period so that no farmer losses his/her fresh produce.
