EXPLAIN YOUR IDEA

Farmers and their families can use juice bikes to turn their non-sellable fruits into profit. Juice takes up less storage than whole fruits and can be sold at markets and to restaurants. Scalability includes allowing farmers to make and transport juices (via their blender bikes) to facilities that have the capacity to refrigerate and/or pasteurize for longer-shelf life.

WHO BENEFITS?

Beneficiaries include farmers and consumers. Farmers families can also support the juicing using a stationary bicycle; which provides exercise and entertainment.

WHERE WILL YOUR IDEA BE IMPLEMENTED?

This idea can be implemented in any country where farmers have access to roads safe for bicycle transportation.

TELL US MORE ABOUT YOU!

Hello! I'm a PhD Student in the School for Global Inclusion and Social Development at The University of Massachusetts Boston. I don't have the handy experience needed to develop a prototype but am hopeful that my idea will inspire someone who does!

Scale up traditional bicycle juicers to allow for overflow to be caught in containers that can then be sold at market or to restaurants. This process utilizes human energy production and improves travel times from farm to seller. Baskets at the rear of the bike can hold whole fruits (for sale) as well as fruits for juicing.
