EXPLAIN YOUR IDEA

IFarmer has been engineered and programmed, to be installed in farms and monitor multiple soil and ambient parameters. The device has capability to accommodate more than 10 sensors, 7 of which are already developed and rest will become a part of it once developed. The design is fairly simple with plug and play sensors. The device is powered with solar and smart batteries enabling smooth operations of IFarmer. IFarmer can detect following parameters: - Ambient Temperature - Humidity - Soil Temperature - Moisture - pH of Soil - Conductivity of Soil - Light Intensity Farmer's Lab team of engineers and scientists has developed smart algorithms that support the system to not only sense but answer many smart questions as what crops to grow, how often to water, which fertilizer to use ,how much to grow and foretell farm’s future. The device is a R2D2 from Starwars enabling us to know everything we need to know about the soil and let us know what it all means. Each IFarmer node, talks to the local server via modern, long range RF transceivers "LORA". The main server is in turn connected to our main server through LAN or 3G/4G technology.

WHO BENEFITS?

The device is going to benefit not only large scale producers and farmers but small scale farmers will enjoy too. The chance of failure to grow would minimize and production would maximize. It would also bring comfort to researchers and agriculturist who require real time soil testing of a certain region and its impact on the crops. The students can take advantage of the device to create farmer-bots that talk to farmers and helpful to take smarter decisions, using our data.

WHERE WILL YOUR IDEA BE IMPLEMENTED?

IFarmer would start its operation in the Punjab region, where much of Pakistan's agriculture takes place. It will later on be expanded to other regions of the country and promise agriculture revolution.

It has been ages and technological advancements have paved its way in making our lives easier and better. Accessibility of information is no more an issue. We do not have to wait a month or two to get to hear about the family members across the oceans, where now through modern technology it only takes seconds to send messages. But when it comes to agriculture, we are still as outdated as we were years from today. The flow of information from research to farmers is inadequate. Farmers have an inevitable need for various types of information to perform their farming activities in an effective way.

Information technology is serving as a great potential to improve decision making in agriculture and has become a vital source for management and success in all the phases of agricultural industry. Accessibility of research, information, weather, land has made no difference at all. We at Farmer's Lab realized the gap and striving to take farming to a whole new level. With months of research, sensor development and prototyping, we came up with "IFARMER", world’s first and only real time soil sensing tool, which does so much more than just sensing.

IFarmer can detect following parameters:

      • Ambient Temperature
      • Humidity
      • Soil Temperature
      • Moisture
      • pH of Soil
      • Conductivity of Soil
      • Light Intensity

Farmer's Lab team of engineers and scientists has developed smart algorithms that support the system to not only sense but answer many smart questions  as what crops to grow, how often to water, which fertilizer to use ,how much to grow and foretell farm’s future. The device is a R2D2 from Starwars enabling us to know everything we need to know about the soil and let us know what it all means. Each IFarmer node, talks to the local server via modern, long range RF transceivers "LORA". The main server is in turn connected to our main server through LAN or 3G/4G technology.

We believe that this never heard of device is going to revolutionize how farming is done. Using data provided by the scientists working on the fields, our systems would tend to grow smarter and result positively impacting the health and production of the farm. It is going to be a new door way for farmer-bots of the future.

The students can take advantage of the device to create farmer-bots that talk to farmers and helpful to take smarter decisions. The device can further be expanded and more modules can be added which will result in extended applications including automated irrigation, anti-insect spray and fertilizer use.

Where will your idea be implemented?

IFarmer would start its operation in the Punjab region, where much of Pakistan's agriculture takes place. We plan to target farmers who are using the technique of tunnel farming and more. We already have identified and communicated to certain customers; they not only appreciated and realized the need of this system but showed willingness in being among the first ones to install it on their farms.

Very handy initiative, since farmers will be benefiting from it. In this challenge, I also put forward very similar ideas. It is the use of agricultural Internet of things technology to reduce waste of resources. So I'm interested in your idea. However, if the use of electronic technology in agricultural production. How to reduce the cost of use this technology.
Good luck to the Team.!

Thank Chenkai Li! I just checked your idea, very impressive and good luck to you in the challenge! There are two ways of reducing the cost, one developing the expensive sensors your self, this is exactly what we have done and has resulted in reducing the cost all the from 150$ to less than 50$ only!

I farmer is a great initiative taken which will hopefully bring revolution in Pakistan's agricultural sector. This will surely help in improving the lives of farmers as they can now rely on technology rather than using old methods to monitor and improve their output. Moreover, it is also energy efficient as  solar energy is being used, which might also help in overcoming energy crisis issues faced by the Pakistani farmers. Best of Luck and I hope that this would also expand to other countries as well.

Now that's incredible.!

Very handy initiative, since both large scale producers/farmers along with small scale farmers will be benefiting from it. Moreover modern agricultural practices will allow farmers to get a maximum of crop yield. I hope after the successful implementation of the entire idea in the region of Punjab we expand to other regions as well.

Good luck to the Team.!

An interesting initiative!!
I am curious to know how farmers try to implement this into their current farming practices.
At the end of the day Better crops, better prices (hope someday we may implement sustainable means as well for farmers)

Photo of Hamza Afridi
Team

Thank you so much Glenn Ryall! For your valuable comment! Well it's simple the farmer will install iFarmer node on their field, the node collects data and send's it to cloud, where through unsupervised machine learning algorithm and AI algorithm together, tell the farmer about the particular actions that he/she must take in order to keep the farm healthy and growth to maximum. It will also suggest the farmer particular fertilizer required by the farm and the quantity of it so that it may not go to wastage and eventually save hundreds if not thousands of farmer's dollars, thus increase the earnings! Let me know if you have any further queries will love to answer them for you :)

A great initiative that will assist in modernization of farming in Pakistan which has experienced lack of change and creativity for several years. A lot needs to be done as acceptability of such resource is quite ignored. There is a lack of acceptability of such resources within the farming populations.

Photo of Hamza Afridi
Team

As important agriculture is in our country, it has been as neglected field. For the acceptability it self Mubsher Hassan our team lead is working on FarmersNetwork and FarmersConnect which simply solves this problem.

Photo of Mashal Iftikhar
Team

The idea has a lot of potential. The application of Information Technology in farming would boom the agricultural industry. It will increase the productivity as well decrease the cost in long run. The farmers would be able to keep a track of everything in a systematic order. Moreover the requirement of inventory and material shall be up to date and in sync.

Good Luck with the project !

Photo of Hamza Afridi
Team

Mashal Iftikhar that has exactly been the dream always! IT and agriculture shaking hands has long been dreamt of and it's the perfect time to materialize the dream! And about the inventory and material, we are working on many researches our self our lead soil scientist Usman Farid is himself working on one such and more over we are collaborating with the labs from around the world to make the system as smart as possible!

This is so awesome. Congratulations team for this great initiative and that finally some thing is being done for the farmers. It's so great to see technology meeting the need of the hour. So impressive that cutting edge design meets plain old agriculture. Brilliant.

Photo of Hamza Afridi
Team

Thank you so much Osama Waqar Bhatti! What you just said has exactly been the dream and the need! We at our universities were doing all sort of researches, but we felt none or very little of it was doing any good to the poor farmers, they still were using the outdated methods for two reasons: reasearch don't reach to them or research reaches them in a way which is in no way understable by them. We simply give them instruction, don't tell them what the science is behind it (as they usually are not interested in any of that becuase of the literacy). We truly believe that this is going to be revolutionary and with your support we truly can make a difference iA!

Good Job Hamza and rest of the team. I think this will be a very powerful tool to build database of the agricultural lands and regions with a time history of all the relevent knowledge to propose best yielding crops. it would be great also great if this becomes more like a common platform where farmers feel being part of one big network and work togather to improve overall quality and quantity of agricultural products. This will help in avoiding over or under production of certain crops that can drastically effect the farmers market.
Once again good luck for the future.

Photo of Hamza Afridi
