This will help farmers form coorperatives and access inputs and services for the farms at low costs or loan basis and save for their future

EXPLAIN YOUR IDEA

What is the Idea? Small scale farmers shall be organized to produce together and market together. Cooperatives are a great opportunity for small scale farmers to learn together, access inputs and services together, market together and save together. How does it work? The Farmers Cooperative Development Center will support the establishment of farmers cooperatives in Uganda. The role of the center is to Moblize communities, Senstize small scale farmers about cooperatives, Draft the documents of the farmers cooperative Register coorperatives Establish structures of a farmers cooperatives Nature the growth of farmers cooperatives And link them to supliers of inputs and services as well as good markets. What problem does my idea solve? The idea of Farmers Cooperative Development center solves the problem of lack of access to small low interest agricultural loans and good/Bulk markets. This is brought about by the isolation of farmers that their small quantities are not convincing enough to the financial credit institutions and well as bulk markets.

WHO BENEFITS?

Who are the beneficiaries? The beneficiaries of the Farmers Cooperative Development Center are the small scale farmers for both crops and livestock. How will they benefit? The small scale farmers will be able to belong to a vibrant farmers group which offers the following services; 1) Small low interest loans for inputs and services and pay after selling their produce and products 2) Access immediate bulk market 3) Savings of their income 4) Acquire skills 5) Access big equipment

Uganda starting with the Central and Eastern regions of the country. The biggest number of small scale farmers are in the Eastern and central regions of Uganda.

I am an individual who has chosen to take on a social enterprenureship career. I am based in Uganda where I have worked for seven years in the livelihood programs around the country. I have some people who are willing to collaborate. However, I am looking for more collaborators.
  • The Farmers Cooperative Development center goal is to organize farmers into groups, supporting them to establish farmers' cooperatives or join an existing cooperatives.

The functions of the farmers cooperatives will include;

  1. A savings scheme.
  2. Input and service loan scheme.
  3. Buying of big equipment 
  4. Marketing together.
  5. Learning together.


The coorperative member will be skilled and given a loan of inputs and services at the start of the season or production cycle or as when needed. All the members will harvest and market together.  Those who have loans, the loan will be deducted from the sales at an agreed interval depending on the production cycles of the farms. A small percentage agreed by the cooperative will be saved from the sales of products of each small farmer.

Smale scale farmers can access financial resources when organized. As they get empowered, these farmers can operate in an environment of consensus other than private credit institutions that may impose high interests.
