BANANA FLOUR TO REDUCE POST HARVEST LOSSES
Processing bananas into flour fetches better prices for the small scale farmers in my village.
EXPLAIN YOUR IDEA
The idea is to solar dry the bananas, grind them into flour and sell it out, and to also make banana crisps. As this happens We will be able to buy the bananas from the farmers at a higher price than the middle men thus increasing their income as well as creating employment for the youths who are unemployed. With the youths being in gainful employment this will reduce the incidences of petty offences like stealing of livestock and also reduce abuse of cheap alcohol.
Group members learning banana processing
The greatest beneficiaries will be the small scale farmers who will get higher prices for their banana bunches.
The youths will also benefit as there will be creation of employment.
The economic status of the whole community will also improve as more money will come in to the farmers.

We are a group of youths, who are already registered by the social services as a youth group here in Kenya. We are all based in Nyeri county and that's where we are interested in implementing the program so that we can improve the livelihoods of the people in the community we live in.
A lot of banana small scale farmers incur large post harvest losses as they avoid selling their crop at very low prices to middle men. This observation prompted me and four of my friends to decide to be part of the solution to this problem. We did our research and discovered that producing banana flour and banana crisps will put us at the best position to buy bananas from the small scale farmers at better prices and also create employment in our community.
