Towards a better life
DOVY is a unique NGO and has its novility regarding connecting the dots between the communities throught Iraq and the KRG region.
What problem does the idea help to solve and how does your solution work? (2,000 characters maximum)
Since both Syrian conflict and ISIS breached Iraqi areas, all of refugees and IDPs settled in KRG cities. Due to insufficient international assistance to meet needs, limited livelihood opportunities and assistance being channeled to camps in KRG, many non-camp IDPs, refugees and members from the host communities are resorting to negative coping mechanisms including violence. Immediate assistance is required to increase support to a community struggling to meet basic needs, prevent and respond to violence, and avoid unhealthy coping mechanisms which put the most vulnerable at further risk. Due to the aforementioned concerns, DOVY as an active NGO has suggested to provide vocational training and to build bridges between them through camping activities.

As the condition of Iraqi is continue to deteriorate, the ongoing violent conflict continues to drive people from their homes. A huge number of IDPs and refugees are in Duhok province in which increased the tension between ethnic groups and experiencing pressure due to poverty, unemployment, increased competition for scarce resources and heightened the sense of tension within the community. Therefore, local NGO such as DOVY is aware of their critical role in building social cohesion and mitigating tension. This can be reached by providing the proposed project by DOVY for all of the HC, Refugees, and IDPs to live together under the umbrella of peace as they will share economic opportunities and share, and exchange the experiences that lead to a better understanding. While the local NGOs are willing to reduce the tension, they lack financial and technical resources in order to create last impact.
What will be different within the community of focus as a result of implementing your idea? (1,000 characters)
Not having enough or even any support from the local government decreased the role of local NGOs, which reduced their level in mitigating the conflict within the areas. However, DOVY and its volunteers have always work to minimize the gaps between communities with diverse backgrounds. Through # of participants in the vocational training and then %camping trips (HC, Refugees, and IDPs include all of Muslims, Yezidis, Christians, Arabs, Kurds from camps and non-camps), DOVY believes and from the humble experience that minimizing the tension and increasing the social cohesion and coexistence can be satisfied by such as a suggested idea by DOVY. As a result, first: % change in participants’ behavior toward peace and social cohesion, second: # of participants are actively engaged in volunteers’ database using through Facebook page and other social media to build bridge and transfer the experience to other people, third: potential business-building between different communities.

The needs to back to a normal and healthy life is the basic need incomparable with the necessary international standards. The big gap and unavoidable concern in such situations is the slow death in the communities. The inspiration behind the idea of decreasing and minimizing that gap is to promote understanding and inclusion between the HC, Refugees, and IDPs by taking them out of their healthy environment, which is causing tension, and into a new setting and assisting them to discovery or remember their common bonds.
