What problem does the idea help to solve and how does your solution work? (2,000 characters maximum)

In 2018, a total of 41.3 million people were estimated to be living in displacement as a result of violence and disaster, the highest figure ever recorded. People who tried to return to their homes in Iraq, Nigeria, and Syria during the year found their property destroyed, infrastructure damaged and basic services non-existent. Lack of infrastructures such as electricity, internet access, and educational materials will cause a halt in education for years and that could mean leaving generations of learners behind. And that is unacceptable! It is essential to act now and create the opportunities these people need to push onwards with their lives. We offer a portable solar-powered WIFI enabled device capable of broadcasting quality educational resources (Ebooks, Videos tutorials and Interactive Exercises) up to a range of 3km so that the teachers and students on the move can continue their ever so crucial education wherever they may be. Anywhere there is a lack of open internet access and electricity, we can bridge the gap of information delivery and help those in need to gain the appropriate education and skills necessary for them to move on with their lives. Currently, we empower > 400,000 students located in different parts of Ethiopia to access modern teaching & learning resources through our platform.

Geography of focus (500 characters)

We are mainly focusing on regions where the people are displaced and on the move, where the availability of infrastructures such as electric power, internet access, and educational materials are scarce. According to the IDMC, Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Syria accounted for more than half of the global figure on conflict-related displacement whereas The Philippines, China, and India between them accounted for around 60% of all new disaster-related displacement.

Building Bridges: What bridge does your idea build between people on the move and neighbors towards a shared future of stability and promise? (500 characters)

We hope to build a bridge of information delivery, we strive to empower those on the move with education. Those who are displaced and on the move lack the necessary tools and skills required for the betterment of their future so we are here to ensure that every person goes beyond survival and access their full potential.

What human need is your idea solving for? (1,000 characters)

"Education is the light that enables us to see in the dark" Nelson Mandela We at S.R.E believe every person needs opportunities. Opportunities to go beyond survival and reach maximum potential, and we believe the key to that is education because an educated person will have better opportunities and hope towards a joyful and elevating life filled with self-worth and dignity.

What will be different within the community of focus as a result of implementing your idea? (1,000 characters)

By empowering those in need with high-quality educational materials, we will help them gain the necessary skills needed to learn, graduate, get jobs and build other opportunities to move forward in their lives. We will be able to see the results of this project in the form of increased educational demographics over the focus area and communities and will also be demonstrated through data gathered on our platform.

What is the inspiration behind your idea? (1,000 characters)

The displaced population is a community with little to no opportunities for a life filled with joy, hope, and dignity. They lack the tools and skills needed to thrive in this world and we are here to play our part in opening the doors for the betterment of their lives through education.

Describe the dynamics of the community in which the idea is to be implemented. (1,000 characters)

We intend to provide our innovation to the people on the move or those settled in places with no suitable infrastructure to carry on with their education. Infrastructures such as electricity, internet access, and quality educational content. The communities hindered by conflict and disaster and stagnated on a path with no hope of a better tomorrow. In Ethiopia where we are located and will begin our project floods in multiple regions and new conflict in West Guji and Gedeo zones, along the border between the Oromia and Southern Nations, Peoples and Nationalities (SNNPR) regions, triggered more than a million new displacements. Intercommunal violence along the border areas of the Oromia and Somali regions also played a role. These communities have no access to any of the infrastructures required to begin their education which means hundreds of thousands of learners unable to acquire the skills necessary to for them lead a life filled with hope, joy, and dignity.

How does your idea leverage and empower community strengths and assets to help create an environment for success? (1,000 characters)

Our innovation empowers the community by offering a chance at education to those with little to no knowledge and skills needed to go beyond survival and prosper. we leveraged the fact that teachers and other educated personnel are part of the displaced community and we are here to provide them with the necessary tools they need to educate the population so that they create jobs for themselves and the community which allows for them to sustain and support each other.
