What problem does the idea help to solve and how does your solution work? (2,000 characters maximum)

According to data, there are more than 700,000 Rohingya refugees who fled Myanmar and live in Cox Bazaar in Bangladesh. The camps lack of basic food, shelter, water and needed necessities even sanitary pads for young girls and women. According to a current camp resident of Cox Bazaar name Ali Zoher Shameem many feel disconnected to the world because they are unable to take care of their own immediate needs. One of the main points our discussions revealed that the camp residents need to know “How do we come together to manage the real harsh realities of our lives? Who can show us how to be there for another and the power of unity in times like this? We are in this camp but are we together”? As a result, partnering with Shelterbox.org -a UK registered charity that provides emergency shelter, essential items, and training to support families works with trusted local partners, in this case involving the residents of the refugee camps and local Bangladesh communities. Use funding to involve youth and women within the Rohingya camps partnerships with local medical centers and global Rotary peace clubs to have trauma therapy and education to begin healing their encounters with violence, rapes, and trauma and set story-telling on interactive media platforms that allow live interactions. Set up an education resource center within the camp that trains local camp residents to have  facilitator trainings who work with local residents giving workshops and support in various way such as obtaining online education that may help earn a high school diploma, online coding, STEAM classes, or other vocational training partnering with local Bangladesh career training centers to give residents skills for income.

Geography of focus (500 characters)

The project is focus towards the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox Bazaar Bangladesh. I chose this community because there are t collective efforts to show solidarity for their oppression. According to camp residents intense internal empowerment and cooperation efforts are needed to build a culture of peace and justice. Methods of peace such as promoting advocacy, trust building and raising awareness need implementation and small scale measures to make any important impact.

Building Bridges: What bridge does your idea build between people on the move and neighbors towards a shared future of stability and promise? (500 characters)

My idea first builds and strengthens community capacity from within by involving them in shelter box initiatives. The first step will improve relations inside the camp and external relations by promoting self respect and equality for those who are displaced. This effort will also work to eliminate discrimination against The Rohingyas’ because it will allow external communities observations that will develop their own first hand experiences and perspectives that may ignite new collaborations.

What human need is your idea solving for? (1,000 characters)

The idea forces divided communities those living in the camp and locals to join forces in building something together to manage the crises. For example, the entire process of shelter box and the facilitator trainings will train locals to conduct ongoing workshops that will increase connectivity and healing among the camp residents. The media story telling initiatives will allow their lives experiences to be recorded and bounced for their own healing and liberation . This is a form of reconciliation with their pasts and the education resource center will provide online educational resources to be explored, use spirts for peace development for social or internal events with local residents could be created to establish a long term connection with the displaced community.

What will be different within the community of focus as a result of implementing your idea? (1,000 characters)

Communities enroll have platforms for sustainable initiatives. For example, shelter box trains for crises and encourages self reliance. Such trainings and initiatives build hope and sustainable society that requires least governance and eminently takes care of addressing its needs and voicing its abilities in effective ways. The story telling platform allows their horrible past experiences to be recorded and retold for their own liberations. Through greater understandings of their own experiences and having a safe platform to share them will envoys emotional responses from the outside world. Such platforms have the ability to bring people together and learn from each other. Also their stories and experiences could help other displaced communities to share collectively . Actively engaging in their own history is a chance they deserve. The education resource center will provide tools and mechanisms through education on how to deal with violent conflicts in constructive ways .

What is the inspiration behind your idea? (1,000 characters)

Displacement is a traumatic experience and it’s resolve for the Rohingya’s is not currently on the horizon. With the rise of populism, nationalism, hate speech against Muslims, there are misconceptions and intolerances. This community is desperately in need of peace initiatives due to the violent rapes and crimes they have endured. Unless, there are increasing efforts to empower and heal the community from within that allows exploration of camp residents memories of the conflict s they have faced , the camp residents cannot build constructive lives in times of crises. Rohingya’s deserve solutions beyond the aid packages and the utmost effort needed is culture of peace and how to bring peace around. Techniques and method of peace building need to be designed and effective interventions such as improving one’s owns peace skills can build hope and restore some dignity in their lives.

Describe the dynamics of the community in which the idea is to be implemented. (1,000 characters)

Cox Bazaar is Home to 700,000 displaced Rohingya refugees. They lack food, water, shelter, sanitary pads and hope. Their current survival depends on aids packages and the packAges cannot fulfill the needs of all residents. The girls living in camps are vulnerable to human trafficking and there is also greater chance that many young kids or malnourished camp residents will die due to lack of sanitation and basic needs. Most women in the camps are victims of brutal rapes or violence or both. There are no economic or empowerment solutions building this displaced community’s skills and knowledge moving them out of desperate living conditions or allowing them to heal from the past they had to endure. The focus of the RISE initiative is to develop practical sustainable internal initiatives that allow effective solutions that can begin to transform the lives of many in small and big ways.

How does your idea leverage and empower community strengths and assets to help create an environment for success? (1,000 characters)

There are many skilled professionals, students, parents among the displaced communities who cannot simply cover their basic needs to be of use to those around them. My idea and initiatives find those who are interested in learning and working to improve their outcomes in times of crises. The strengths the Rohingya communities currently have is that they are greater in numbers in that their voices can unite for big changes in their lives. They are currently resourceful in locating media platforms for their voices and needs to be recognized globally. They understand the power of one voice. Currently, their international attention To their genocide makes them widely known as an vulnerable population that needs investment and strong initiatives to manage their crises.

What other partners or stakeholders will work alongside you in implementing the idea, if any? (1,000 characters)

My partners are Shelterbox, Local ngo and business in Cox Bazaar, Bangladesh for health, human services plus training solutions and both global and local rotary club of Chengdu and Bangladesh for volunteers and workshops that can support the camps and education resource center in various ways. In the future, I hope to partner with girls who code, and tech ngo’s that provide tech equipment to improvised communities.
