What problem does the idea help to solve and how does your solution work? (2,000 characters maximum)

The idea will solve the problem of conflict between the host and refugee community. In Uganda, the refugee population has been facing different challenges and many of them hinder a peaceful coexistence. If we get some finances, we shall invest them in filling the gap existing between people on the move and the host because once we equip them with knowledge they will be set free from jalousie and battles. Since the time I have been in Uganda, I realized hatred existing between refugees and the host community because the Ugandan claim that the refugees benefit from the government money without being of any use in the country. If the refugee community and the host community are empowered with information and skills it will promote that friendly environment and there will be communication between the two and it will reduce the myth which is creating the visible problems. The youth especially being most of the victims just because they are considered not to be very mature and not ready to take any responsibility, they are left behind of any planning in the development yet once ignored they are the perpetrators of physical and sexual violence and also give in to drug abuse in the way of compensating to the feeling of not being worth. Once this money is availed, it will be invested in training the energetic youth because these will have enough time to be more productive and they haven’t gotten much of bad influence from the environment and this will promote peaceful coexistence, good governance in the future, safe and secure environment for all. The mechanism of implementation is that we shall have skills and language training centers where both the host and the refugee will be some beneficiaries and others facilitators because the refugees know much of music, French, Swahili, Arabic, (languages) and they need to learn local languages and English to cop and the community will find them of use and this will promote even intermarriage which is the strong bond

Geography of focus (500 characters)

The idea will focus on the youth both Ugandan and refugee without discrimination to help them put into practice what they have leant from different places but also help them reach to many with the constructive information of a loving and independent youth. The idea will first be implemented in Kampala being an area where I have operated and experienced the challenges and later may be extended to the refugee settlements by the trained and empowered youth. Women are the most to benefit from this.

Building Bridges: What bridge does your idea build between people on the move and neighbors towards a shared future of stability and promise? (500 characters)

My idea will build the bridge between the refugees and the Ugandan because the two will participate in the same activities, will have shared responsibilities and will understand the importance of one another along their journey through the developed areas of interest. Stability will be assured because once these refugees return or resettled they won’t have anything against the former host and they won’t allow the enemy to use their home to destabilize the neighbor. This is sustainable peace.

What human need is your idea solving for? (1,000 characters)

Every human needs to feel loved and valued and no human wants to make efforts in vain therefore, my idea will help the government of Uganda in creating and promoting the stable and responsible youth, productive for the country and the world and will keep them away from breaking the law because he will fear to get wasted in prison where he will not enjoy his rights and freedom which is not applicable once this youth feels neglected and rejected. While my idea is being implemented, there will be hope to decrease terrorism and suicidal attempts and attacks as the youth is the most targeted subjects to fulfil these evil assignment reserved only for the desperate. My idea will clear frustration in people’s lives because many refugee and Ugandan youth has had objectives and targets which have been difficult to fulfill due to lack of resources and opportunities. Peace is the most important need for every human and once the two communicate and understand how to strengthen it.

What will be different within the community of focus as a result of implementing your idea? (1,000 characters)

Everyone will be productive and the creative competition will take lead. Parents will have less pressure because every youth will be engaged and taking care of self and dependency will be nowhere. The result during and after implementation of my idea every youth will have been able to understand his abilities, he will be able to make it productive for the wellbeing of the community and himself. At the end, we shall have a mixed and peaceful community because these youths will be communicating and one participating in the promotion of his neighbor’s product without considering his race, nationality, gender and the differences among them. As you saw in the mechanism there will be no one without the other. The refugee - host combination will be unavoidable and they will be forced to work together and even intermarry in big number because of value and love for each other. We shall measure it impact by analysing the comments made on social media and actions taken together.

What is the inspiration behind your idea? (1,000 characters)

Since 2012 when I came to Uganda as a refugee, I realized that the population living under poverty never loved stranger just because they share the little opportunities and available resources. Over the years I got a chance to access different offices and realized that this was also among the service providers due to lack of information. Down the line the hatred is increasing and lives of many getting in danger just for the same reasons. Many people are being kept in jail for long without justice, dropped in hospital untended to, some are being beaten on the way back home just because they spoke a different language and the succumb of the wounds sustained during such attacks. After this observation, I came up with a strategy of openness and sharing opportunities and information between the refugees and the host community through the church at All Saved Church of Christ – Kampala under the youth department in form of talks, debates, games, … and realized some changes were happening.

Describe the dynamics of the community in which the idea is to be implemented. (1,000 characters)

The majority of the urban refugee in Kampala is of the population from the urban areas in their countries of origin. These people have special skills which need some standardization for them to become productive. The qualities of this population being of people who are not able to go to rural areas for farming and other types of activities, they need re-motivation and being enabled in the area of language for them to start working like comedians, motivation speakers, writers, singers, teachers, … they need a prepared field for them to operate. The Ugandan population in this area also needs the same opportunities and they would not like to share these opportunities but once they have been raised together and have shared the experience they can accept to share also the opportunities. This host community doesn't understand yet the use of the refugee community until they are enabled and given opportunity to give them services to appreciate their use.

How does your idea leverage and empower community strengths and assets to help create an environment for success? (1,000 characters)

As we all know, togetherness is power and there is nobody in this world who can do everything for himself. Once we have unity and togetherness we shall be powerful and we shall support one another in the fields of ability. The United States of America have become that powerful because they combine their efforts to protect their country and promote their products and development. The European Union also has been formed to do the same and therefore, if we help our youth to live in harmony with strangers, we shall have a peaceful future because they will not have much to fight as to defend themselves. We only have success when we always to do better than what we did before and that is possible in a peaceful environment and where everyone is willing to lean and teach others. History shows that America which is powerful today was once less than that but they invested in accepting everyone willing to participate in development of the USA let be Jew, German, ... and it worked for them.

What other partners or stakeholders will work alongside you in implementing the idea, if any? (1,000 characters)

I am an individual, the community management team can work to identify potential partners within the BridgeBuilder community but also have got some partners: 1. All Saved Church of Christ – Kampala which is the area I am operating from and where I sampled my idea from since the year 2016 till today 2. Vijana Kwa Africa is an organization made of Ugandan youths who have accepted to work with us and have had some joint activities. 3. Rendez-Vous is a youth movement operating under Refugee Law Project which works normally with refugees and have had some joint activities with us. 4. All Nations Together Bible College, operating under All Saved Church of Christ and implementing the mixed beneficiary and service provider strategy.

Tell us more about your group or organization [or lived experience as a displaced person?] (1000 characters)

I am a Congolese refugee from the Democratic Republic of Congo living in Uganda since December 2012. As a refugee I have been a victim of conflict between the host and refugees due to lack of knowledge of who is a refugee and also because many of the host have not had a chance to benefit from the potential these refugees have especially the population living in poverty. As a language interpreter, I have had a chance to come across many cases of which a similar to what I experienced and also have observed many refugees facing these challenges in different office providing services like Police, Health Centers and others. As a former human right activist, I used my skills to investigate the cause and found it out and as a youth leader in church, I tried solving that problem at that level using the scientific mechanism rather than religious for its applicability out of the church settings and tried it with the nearby people and it worked. I am the right person to get this fund.

Hi Jean Pierre! Inspiring to read your case. Be strong there.

Also, the idea of putting people together, standing as equals, doing the same activities in a way that no one is feeling to be "helped" is a powerful methodology for people to mingle, connect and learn with each other. We use same strategy with success. However for this to happen with the results you want the methodology is fundamental. So learn as you go to build the right methodology around those activities to make sure you are truly connecting people and breaking barriers.

Best of luck!

Thank you Hugo Agular,
It isn't easy really as people aren't used to this and the challenge has been felt by many as witnessed even during the Youth International Day where the refugees celebrated in a separate way and where the host prepared refugees didn't also turn up.
I was at Kyambogo University where a sport gala was organized but refugees did not participate yet they are talented in soccer, volleyball, basketball and other sports.
We are looking forward to reach out to all the active groups to include people on the move in there agenda.
