Potentially increasing the number of self-sufficient refugees who can be incorporated into various economic societies as productive members.
What problem does the idea help to solve and how does your solution work? (2,000 characters maximum)
The problem this idea aims to solve is majorly overcrowding in the refugee camps. But it also solve other problems such as more food, better shelter, employment thus ensuring self-reliance for when they are ready to rejoin society.
It mainly impacts the working class but also improves quality of living for every individual in the camp.
The solution, in my opinion is, commercial greenhouses and a borehole fitted with a filter, to begin with. These provide employment, food and clean water. Part of the proceeds from selling the harvest can go to building better, more permanent housing and schools. Part of it can go to the workers as wages and part of it can go to a fund for future projects such as processing plants for the products. This will also create more jobs and provide an opportunity increased wages.
