In a society like Hong Kong, most of the refugees and ethnic minorities tend to be discriminated because of their skin color or background. There is little hope to see a positive side of an Ethnic minorities in the mass media.
The problem we are solving is hoping to change the mindset of the local on how they perceive the refugees and ethnic minorities in Hong Kong. Because most of the local lack knowledge about the refugees and ethnic minorities and there is a huge fear caused by the mass media which has created this image of refugees and ethnic minorities most likely as bad people or illegal immigrants in a society of Hong Kong.
A way to solve this problem is by showing another side of the refugees and ethnic minorities to Hong Kong which is not shown by mass media in way to trying to let the local learn about us and showing them the talents that this group of people have that can be contributed to the Hong Kong society and asia in general, we are doing this by celebrating diversity and inclusion through arts and fashion. We have created a platform which showcase the talent of the refugees and ethnic minorities through arts, fashion and music.

Our idea is targeting Hong Kong and Asia in general as there is a lack of diversity and inclusion in Hong Kong. Most people in Hong Kong tend not to have much knowledge and aware of the refugees and ethnic minorities in Hong Kong and that's why we hope to bring the and show the importance of diversity in a society.

Our idea goes beyond the basics need in away we provide a platform for the less privilege people in a society by believing in them and giving them hope that there is more in life in away we give them a platform to show case their talents and by doing this it bring a sense of belonging in a person life and the joy of someone believing in them.
What will be different within the community of focus as a result of implementing your idea? (1,000 characters)
In a society like Hong Kong where lack of representation and racial discrimination is prevalent, we believe in creating a platform for ethnic minorities in Hong Kong to showcase their talent and art, and aid refugee children’s education assisting them to reach their creative careers one step at a time. We hope to address this problem because If this problem is not addressed, many refugees and ethnic minorities will not be able to express their talent. Hong Kong will be missing a pool of skills that will benefit the community. Many of these ethnic minorities will like to enhance the capacity of their home countries. Therefore, by addressing the issue Hong Kong will be a place with an appreciation of diversity where people wouldn’t be judged on their skin colour nor background. People will be living together. There will be more understanding of her culture and appreciation where fear wouldn’t be a tool of unappreciation.
What is the inspiration behind your idea? (1,000 characters)
The inspiration came from being rejected and not wanted in a society because of the colour of the skin and the identities as a refugees in Hong Kong, where I was called names and did not feel included. The Idea is important because every human being deserved to live in harmony and peace as we all want to be accepted and feel a sense of belongings. In peace we can create a better tomorrow for our future.
Describe the dynamics of the community in which the idea is to be implemented. (1,000 characters)
There are about 14,000 refugees in Hong Kong. However, Hong Kong does not accept refugees for resettlement as it did not sign the Convention. With this, there are a lot limitation as the refugees community are not allow to work ( There are about less than 1% of the refugees who are allowed to work) and on top of that the refugees community in Hong Kong are unable to contribute to the society. Most of the refugees in Hong Kong come from countries in Africa, Middle East, South Asia and Southeast Asia.
According to a 2016 government by-census, there were 584,383 ethnic minority residents in Hong Kong, accounting for 8 per cent of the total population. Ethnic minorities lives in a parallel, poorer and more deprived version of the city and the problems are linked to a lack of access to support and services.
How does your idea leverage and empower community strengths and assets to help create an environment for success? (1,000 characters)
There are currently five people in the team who mostly came from low privilege background which make it easier for the idea to succeed because the people are living and facing the problem that we are trying to challenge as a everyone has felt unaccepted in way or another due to their background as either a refugee or ethnic minority in Hong Kong.

Eaton House Hong Kong : is a dynamic take on the working club for innovators, activists, progressive thinkers, and creatives also encourage grassroots projects and artistic expression.
Art Women: is a co-op of refugees women that combine self-empowerment with counselling through the production of clothing and accessories. Forced to leave behind the confronts of their home, an aspiring collective of women created a therapy group out of their love for sewing.
Mamatoldme: is a Hong Kong multi-media group highly inspired by youth, music, and hip-hop culture.
The Wondering Voice: is a social enterprise based in Hong Kong, dedicated to facilitate inclusion of migrant dome

Did you use the resources offered during the Improve Phase (mentorship, expert feedback, community research)? (2000 characters)
The thing I have learnt from mentorship is on to explain better and focus on how our platform is changing the life of others in the community. We attended as many social gatherings related to refugees, ethnic minorities, entrepreneurship and socialising events to get Harmony HK out there and get a chance to meet experts and talents. We have a number of advisors at Harmony HK, who help to assist us in managing things from finance to promotion to the implementation of our plan. We talked to men and women coming from every background to see what they could offer Harmony HK, we have now - with the help of them - established key areas to improve. For example, our initial show was aimed at just young adults and we have now learnt to expand to any age group to showcase their talent and cater the fashion event according to everyone. As for community research, Harmony HK went out to the public to have one on one discussions on how they feel they're portrayed in the media; almost all mentioned the negativity they faced and the stereotype that they fight to eradicate.
In what ways would potential BridgeBuilder funds allow you to pursue your idea that other funding opportunities have not? (1000 characters)
BridgeBuilder funds will allow Harmony HK to create a clothing line which can expand to all corners of the world. This clothing line will use art, words, and images that highlight current crisis in the world to spread awareness and to educate people through art. This clothing line will be created by ethnic minorities and refugees for people of any age, size or colour. Also, Harmony HK would use these funds to create fashion shows in countries other than Hong Kong to showcase cultural talents too and to eradicate stereotypes of each race. We aim to make people proud to be a part of Harmony HK and make sure that no one misses out on opportunities like this.
What aspects or proportion of the overall idea would potential BridgeBuilder funds primarily support? (1000 characters)
Harmony HK would use at least a third of BridgeBuilder funds to market, promote and gain exposure because we believe this platform is beyond the range we are encountering at the moment. We know that talent is beyond capacity, and is hidden in every corner of not just Hong Kong but in other countries. The funds used for marketing and promotion will help Harmony HK to get out there and bring in more talents.
What are the key steps or activities for your idea for implementation in the next 1-3 years? (1000 characters)
Our next steps or activities for our idea for the next 1-3 years is to keep on hosting fashion events, on top of that is to starting having a blog to tell stories of different people that have been working with us such as models, designers or whoever that has join us to know what has changed since they have been working with us and most important to create a platform that can tell more stories about the individuals that have joined us. In 3 years we see ourselves hosting events in other countries especially a city which we are initiating plans on - Shanghai, to showcase a wider range of talents.
What will community-level impact look like over the timeframe of your idea? How will you determine whether or not you have achieved that impact? And what outstanding questions do you still have? (1000 characters)
We will know our idea has achieved when most people tend to be treated equality both in the modelling industry and in the community. When people are not being judge based on their skin colour nor background. Where everyone feel included and that they feel like they matter in a society. We also will know our idea is achieved when we see these talents on national media not just on Harmony HK, once more ethnic minorities and refugees are seen on mass media making news for talents not crimes thats when the motive of Harmony HK will be achieved. We will keep updated with each talented individual and provide them any type of resources they might need in order to upgrade their talent as we believe in working together too!

Anne Marie the founder of Harmony HK, she gather ideas and implement them to her team. Anne Marie researches and carries out prospect ideas which could improve Harmony HK in every step of the way. Innocent works with Harmony to share responsibilities and manage the team. His responsibilities are to keep up to date with the societal aspects and provide insights into how Harmony HK can help. David looks after the branding of Harmony HK, he manages the social media and marketing aspect of things, he promotes Harmony HK.Anthony manages the videos and edits Harmony HK. He directs the videos and has the responsibility to cover all of Harmony HK events. Chihiro manages Harmony HK finances. She tells her team the budgeting for each event, the credit and debit after each show. Gordon an intern at Harmony HK and assists Chihiro. He is responsible for communicating with prospect Chinese in Hong Kong with his language skills to gain sponsors and resources.
Lastly, how did you apply new learnings to your idea? (1000 characters)
I was connected with a mentor who mentioned to be clear on how the society is helped. I gained an insight that the path to talent requires a staircase, Harmony HK is a first step towards someones career. We know that the first step is the hardest but we at Harmony HK want to make the first step easier! One of the criticism that we received was that the theme was not prominent enough in each show we've had so far. Our previous themes such as tropical and christmas did not quite catch the attention of the audience because we did not have enough resources for example a well laid out event management team who could helped us use props and materials to make it prominent. With an idea so huge, we forget to put Harmony HK in the centre, we tend to focus on the societal pressure and crisis but this is another thing we can improve on. We need to showcase the crisis through our art and bring together the minorities that have come from backgrounds like this.
