The programme is pre-emptive. Addressing community relations before they breakdown to violent conflict

The project seeks to address the ethnic differences of Kenyan society currently exploited by the political elite by establishing cross county youth learning exchange visits to dismantle the ethnic narratives constructed by the political and urban elite.

What human need is your idea solving for? (1,000 characters)
The inter-community youth exchange programme will solve the problem of ethnic misinformation and ethnic steriotyping upon which Kenya's political elite build political narratives that fester hate and insight violence.
The most effective tool in the political elites handbook in maintaining the status quo are goons for hire. Young men and sometimes women who for as little at 200 Kenya shilling (2 USD) per day will attack their opponent’s office, invade a family home at dawn and demolish it because the family refuses to sell their property, attack polling stations, intimidate political opponents and coming out in large numbers to attend political rallies shouting ‘our son’.
This programme will actively over 36 months facilitate the building of an inter community youth network that learns by seeing the reality of life for other youth across the crountry from other communities and living in other counties. the proramme will encouradge the youth to focus on their commonalities
What will be different within the community of focus as a result of implementing your idea? (1,000 characters)
Strengthen the capacity of youth to be a force for peace and tool for community reconciliation
Provide training on the role of youth in community development and create a youth leadership and mentorship network in conjunction with the Nyeri (Aguthi Gaaki) Sub-county Youth Vocational Technical Training Centers

What is the inspiration behind your idea? (1,000 characters)
The youth form one of the largest demographic in Kenya. High unemployment makes the youth easy to manupilate by a political elite. if tis programe works, it will begin to lay the foundations for the youth in six diverse counties to make a break from believeing ethnic narratives and stereotypes perpetrated by the political elite during elections to devide and solidify ethnic based political bases.
If the youth can be empowered to break the cycle of ethnic hatred by visiting other youth from different tribes and learning from each other, then it makes them less likely to me manupilated into perpetrating political violence pre or post elections
Describe the dynamics of the community in which the idea is to be implemented. (1,000 characters)
The project will target rural and youth working in the informal sector in six counties in Kenya.
This demographic in communities is responsible for perpetrating violence. In short they are the group that participates in post and pre elections violence in Kenya. As such, they are the main group targeted by a political elite that has increasingly mastered the use of political violence to maintain the status quo in which they retain political power.
The youth, rural and in informal sectors (18 - 32 years old) will be the programme target group
The programmes will work with community leaders to identify youth leaders and influential youth in six sub-counties in (Nyeri, Meru, Kwale, Migori, Nyakach and Eldoret) as the first step in breaking down community hostilities and negative narratives real or imagined with the aim of fostering lasting peaceful communal relations and decrease likelyhood of youth perpetrated pre and post political violence.
How does your idea leverage and empower community strengths and assets to help create an environment for success? (1,000 characters)
The inter-communal youth exchange visits will empower the youth in the six counties to create their own narratives or the 'other' independed of existing ethnic stereotypes in Kenya.
The programme will create a network of youth peace ambasadors that can help de-escalate violence in their communities giving the youth direct access to information from their peers in other counties independent of the elite.
What other partners or stakeholders will work alongside you in implementing the idea, if any? (1,000 characters)
Adili Institute will work with local community groups and community leaders to identify participating youth.
Adili Institute has agreements to work with the Nyeri county education office which runs three Vocational Trainning Centres to provide visiting youth leaders with visits to the institutions and help encouradge youth from other counties to explore short courses at the institutions

Adili Institute is development and research organisation founded to contribute towards aiding the development of sustainable peaceful and prosperous communities in Africa. The organisation works predominately with rural communities to access services from public sectors by contributing to shaping of public policy and governance through research, analysis, consulting and implementing development programs. This is with the view of improving community cohesion, health, access to education and sustainable peace, security and conflict resolution all in support of achieving the universal sustainable development goals and the ‘Africa we want’ as envisioned by the African Union Vision 2063.
Capacity to deliver:
Adili Institute has been carrying out peacebuilding, mediation and community engagement work in Eastern Africa since 2016. To date, Fadila has facilitated numerous dialogues and consultations between communities in South Sudan, Sudan , Kenya and Uganda
