What problem does the idea help to solve and how does your solution work? (2,000 characters maximum)

Due to circumstance Yemeni society is facing with insufficient education system. Even though person claims that he/she finished several years of primary school or high school by testing their knowledge you will realised that they can barely read or write. When it comes to people from rural areas or those areas that are directly affected by war, situation is even worse. In all above mentioned cases people will say "We are barely surviving so first comes to earn the money and then education". Due to fragile and unstable environment it is a normal thing to meet six-years old child working to buy himself a food and even worse meet child inside juvenile facility who is charged of stealing food from local market. The fact that minors, especially those from poor families or refugees, are committing more and more offences and crime due to their life circumstances is becoming a warning sign for Yemeni authorities but international organisations as well. And this is the main reason why our focus would be on providing education, rehabilitation and basic life needs for children and women in need. From one side this would have direct impact on children and women from the street or those who are already accused for first offence or crime and second this would improve the current status of society in general. During our interviews with both minors and women inside juvenile centre and prison all of them confirmed that they want to learn and become something in their lives but unfortunately their families or themselves can not afford that. Moreover, during the workshops that included interviews one-on-one and group drawing sessions all participants were more than open to communicate and cooperate. And this is the reason why we are assure that these types of projects would be more than useful for Yemen. At the end, opening the schools, clinics and provide them support, which otherwise they would not have it, was more that welcome and appreciated by all parties involved.

Geography of focus (500 characters)

Yemen can be described as forgotten country. Even though we are speaking about the biggest humanitarian crisis in the world people are still suffering on daily basis. Those who are directly affected by the war, refugees from war torn places like Hodeidah can not provide almost nothing to their children not food, clothes to education. Children and society in general do not have normal life at all and this is something that everyone deserves it.

Building Bridges: What bridge does your idea build between people on the move and neighbors towards a shared future of stability and promise? (500 characters)

According to the latest statistics only Aden is facing with more than 41 000 internally IDPs and number is increasing on almost weekly basis. The acceptance and consensus among local community and refugee is more than needed. Our project would bring them even closer because except children parents of both refugees and local would be involved. Already workshops and events organised by Future Forum showed that families are not only bonding but even helping each other in daily life.

What human need is your idea solving for? (1,000 characters)

Every human being, especially children, deserve to have opportunity for decent life. Unfortunately, due to current situation in Yemen families can not ensure almost anything for their family members. Children are staying uneducated and unsafe this way they are vulnerable to different types of offences and crimes. That is why with opening schools and centres where they can find education, safety and joy you are changing their lives completely. Future Forum already opened one of those schools in Aden and besides education we are also providing individual and group therapy for children. Providing them every day activities you are putting them far way from ideas like "I want to become soldier" or "I want to go and sell qat on the street". Just providing them second home for them means second opportunity which can change their lives completely. And opening them up you are giving them hand to help them get rid of bad ideas and things that happened in their lives.

What will be different within the community of focus as a result of implementing your idea? (1,000 characters)

Based on our current experience and projects that we implemented in Aden in cooperation with the local authorities we made the assessment of what are the most affected fields and needs in Yemeni society. According to the evaluation education and rehabilitation of children and women is one of the weakest points and needs more investing. However, the goal of each and every project needs to be how to make local society ready to take over improving their own one. As project with children is more than successful one and children are returning to centre just to see their second family we can undoubtedly say that it is effective and successful. On the other hand, changing 30-50 lives means you are saving more than hundred ones and this is the way how we make the difference. At the end our effort was not only recognised by the families and children but by the local authorities who made it simple - "This is not changing only them, you are teaching us as well and our families"

What is the inspiration behind your idea? (1,000 characters)

Living one year in Yemen gave me opportunity to meet to many beautiful people with so many sad stories. All international and local staff agree on one thing - help is more than needed. They need education in order to create at least hope for better tomorrow, therapy because all of them are facing with some bad events that marked their lives and they need someone to help them. By providing basic life needs, education and therapy for them means something that can make them better for themselves and community in general. Without these they are left, they do not have anything to lose and can become easy targets for different criminal groups. According to the local authorities crimes committed by minors or even adults are mostly related to poverty, lack of basic life needs and education. And the best defence against that is providing them these type of projects. Number of IDPs is increasing on daily basis which means more need for international help.

Describe the dynamics of the community in which the idea is to be implemented. (1,000 characters)

Ongoing conflict in Yemen lead to the biggest humanitarian crisis in the world. Basic life needs like water and food, became to expensive for most of the population while diseases, like cholera, diphtheria, yellow fewer, are leading to the high level of mortality. Besides this lack of education, due to closer of schools and absence of adequate equipment and materials, is pushing children and adults on street. Street where they have nothing to learn except how to beg, committee offences or crimes or at the end join military and become underage soldiers. Bright lives are becoming dreams and future is something that people in Yemen are not dreaming about. How to survive today or tomorrow or how to feed my family and me is question that comes to their mind. One sentence of 10-years old boy is the best description of Yemen - "Why I should become soldier? I do not have anything to lose. Future? What future? Maybe even tomorrow I will be dead."

How does your idea leverage and empower community strengths and assets to help create an environment for success? (1,000 characters)

The main goal of the project is to transfer experience and knowledge from professionals to local community. As Yemeni society is suffering due to lack of education, workshops and first hand experience the main part of our project would be to involve local staff who can take over the implementation after the project is done. On the other hand, twenty-five years ago Croatian society faced with the same challenges. During the war that took place in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina we gain experience on conflict and post-conflict environments which now we can transfer on our Yemeni colleagues. By providing the knowledge and equipment they are not only getting current assistance but also we are together building foundations for the future.

What other partners or stakeholders will work alongside you in implementing the idea, if any? (1,000 characters)

As we already started our projects in Yemen, Future Forum is closely cooperating with local communities and families. Our partner would be Al-Shab Centre in Aden, as we already established effective and close cooperation, as well as local authorities who are providing us full support in our work in Yemen.

Hi Zrinka Vucinovic! Providing education, rehabilitation and basic life needs to women and children affected by the biggest humanitarian crisis in the world is quite insightful. May you please extend this unique design to disabled persons whose conditions are sometimes worse than those of women and children. Just imagine the blind in a time of war. What about the unskilled, uneducated, and general poverty of disabled persons community. Well, integrating them into this design will improve its global outlook.
