What problem does the idea help to solve and how does your solution work? (2,000 characters maximum)

South Africa's unemployment rate is one of the highest in the world. It is constantly measures above 20% apart from two of the country's socio-economic challenges which are poverty and inequality. Statistics shows that unemployment has increased to 29 % in the second quarter of 2019 which means 6.6 million people are without jobs. The youths are the most vulnerable in South African labour market as the unemployment rate amongst this group was 55,2% in the first quarter of 2019. There are numerous causes that influence this problem such as poor educational system which includes lack of soft skills, work experience and work place readiness that will lead our youth into employment. The main objective of this idea is to promote self-employment amongst graduates of higher institution learning, thereby changing their job-seeking mind-set to start businesses that will create job opportunities for others. Unemployment is a world wide problem as a result we have graduates from our neighbouring countries also looking for employment. This idea and program will also help our brothers and sisters from neighbouring countries to find the greener pastures they are looking for in our country. Reality is that jobs are scarce and if we continue to equip graduates with skills and knowledge needed to obtain employment we will never eradicate unemployment. The program is targeted at providing solutions to the challenges of graduates unemployment through various training that will empower our vulnerable graduates and train them to be community change agents. The graduates will undergo training in multiple vacations such as fashion, carpentry, catering, baking, manufacturing, technology, tool making, welding and engineering products so that they will acquire skills and experience needed to start their own business. Through this program the community, graduates and people on the move will be empowered to be productive members of the society.

Geography of focus (500 characters)

The program will be implemented in the province of Limpopo, South Africa that is made up of four districts which are Capricorn, Sekhukhune, Mopani and Vhembe district. This province is targeted by our program because there are no job opportunity compare to other provinces in South Africa as a results our graduates relocate to other provinces for job opportunities.

Building Bridges: What bridge does your idea build between people on the move and neighbors towards a shared future of stability and promise? (500 characters)

This idea will create youth economic empowerment and stability to the graduates and immigrants in South Africa. This program will kindle the spirit of entrepreneurship amongst graduates so that they will be able to support themselves and their families and avoid the life of crime.

What human need is your idea solving for? (1,000 characters)

My idea is to make sure that dignity and hope of unemployed graduates is restored and are empowered with skills and experience needed to sustain themselves and also contribute to the socio- economic development through job creation. Employment is a human need my idea is solving because I believe that people have the right to fulfil their dreams and make their desires come true.

What will be different within the community of focus as a result of implementing your idea? (1,000 characters)

Unemployed graduates from various communities and immigrants will be given training that will enable them to start their own businesses and stop waiting for a job that is not forth coming. The graduates will no longer see a need to relocate to other provinces or country for employment rather they will stay and develop their own communities as community change agents.

What is the inspiration behind your idea? (1,000 characters)

I am also a graduate who is affected by this epidemic for 3 years, searched for employment but was unsuccessful in this quest. I know the pain of being young, educated and unemployed and how this affect the individual and their families. A degree or diploma no longer guarantees a job is like we go to school and then once we are qualified we sit with a whole stack of certificates that we cant actually use. This is a harsh reality we are facing. I believe that we are the future leaders and solution providers to this epidemic with support and guidance we will be able to eradicate this unemployment and make it a thing of the past because the future is bright.

Describe the dynamics of the community in which the idea is to be implemented. (1,000 characters)

My project will focus in the communities that has a high rate of crime and xenophobic attacks, people from this communities believe that foreigners are the reason they are unemployed which is not true. Unemployment is a global phenomenon that causes people to immigrate to other countries for employment not knowing that the same country has high unemployment rate similar to their country of origin. My project will help improve community life and restore peace amongst community members and foreign nationals by fostering the spirit of oneness.

How does your idea leverage and empower community strengths and assets to help create an environment for success? (1,000 characters)

My idea will instil the spirit of unity amongst graduates, immigrants and the community. They will learn to work together in eradicating unemployment so that they will be able to create jobs that will sustain everyone in the community. The community has many business opportunities that are waiting to be discovered through this program businesses will be established for the good of the community and peace will be restored.

What other partners or stakeholders will work alongside you in implementing the idea, if any? (1,000 characters)

I will work with my team and the youth community forums.

Tell us more about your group or organization [or lived experience as a displaced person?] (1000 characters)

Our team is made up of a group of unemployed graduates from the university of Limpopo with different qualifications. The reason we started this organisation is that after graduation we searched for jobs to no avail and we believed that if we were equipped with certain skills from our universities we would not be unemployed. the main objective of our organization is to raise awareness and educate people about the challenges we face as unemployed graduates in our communities. We are the right organization to solve this problem because we know the pain of being educated, unemployed and without any financial source. We also visit our local community schools were we educate pupils about unemployment.
