What problem does the idea help to solve and how does your solution work? (2,000 characters maximum)

Uganda is currently host to over 1.4 million refugees and it is predicted this number could grow up, according to UNHCR. Approximately 74 per cent of all refugees are from South Sudan. However, as of December 2017 there has been a sharp increase in new arrivals from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). . Uganda’s integrated refugee response incorporating host communities has been named as the model for the Comprehensive Refugee Response Framework (CRRF), adopted in September 2016 Summit for Refugees and Migrants in New York. This marks Uganda as a front line state for this new approach. During the 2016 participatory assessment exercise (Age, Gender and Diversity Mainstreaming) in Kampala that was conducted by InterAid (a refugee support organization), refugees expressed and confirmed the challenge of limited access to information on available relief, support and protection especially in regard to available livelihood opportunities and access to medical and education services offered by the different refugee support organizations. Refugees do not have a coordinated central source of information with wide coverage. Language barrier as expressed by refugees that come from French, Arabic and other non- English speaking countries limits them from accessing available relief service information. In addition, the host communities have limited information on refugees which in turn burdens refugees as they try to access public services and integrate with the host population. The idea responds first to a need for information. People on the move should know procedures and policies governing the land they are marching towards, and this in the language they understand. this information access can help them build good relationships with the hosting communty. The platform will not only provide relief information but contents may include legal advises, because Nobody is supposed to ignore the law they say, rights and obligations to be observed by refugees and migrants.

Geography of focus (500 characters)

The project beneficiaries are refugee and host community in Kampala and settlements. The population of concern includes; Somalis, Rwandans, South Sudanese, Sudanese, Congolese, Ethiopians and Eritreans. During the 2016 participatory assessment exercise, refugees expressed and confirmed the challenge of limited access to information on available relief, support and protection in regard to available livelihood, medical services, education offered by different stakeholders.

Building Bridges: What bridge does your idea build between people on the move and neighbors towards a shared future of stability and promise? (500 characters)

Language barrier as expressed by refugees that come from non- English speaking countries limits them from accessing available relief service and protection. In addition, the host communities have limited information on refugees which in turn burdens refugees as they try to access public services and integrate with the host population. the project will build a firm and close relationship between refugees, service providers and the host population.

What human need is your idea solving for? (1,000 characters)

Access to accurate, timely and reliable source of relief, community development and protection information as people move and temporarily settle into a designated place. Building a sustainable relationship between the displaced people, the service providers and the host community or neighbors as together get the same chance to explore the opportunities offered by the equal access to information. the Platform will provide statistical data on locations and movements of the refugees and disseminate information to supporting partners and refugee organizations. it will also enable refugees in the settlements to make informed decisions about relocating to Kampala and other urban areas in Uganda.

What will be different within the community of focus as a result of implementing your idea? (1,000 characters)

1.Provide a coordinated system of sharing information on available relief, protection and support services offered by all refugee support organizations to the Persons of Concerns. 2. Provide refugees with a convenient, affordable, reliable, fast and easy to use way to access available information to the refugees through online access and offline (mobile based application, television and radio access). 3. Refugees will have quick and affordable access to services through remote scheduling of appointments with service providers which will help limit unnecessary movements of the client and improve service delivery from the organization.

What is the inspiration behind your idea? (1,000 characters)

from a research in Nakivale refugee settlement, it was found that almost 30% of refugee youth and others owned a smart phone and had easy access to internet. only 2% percent of the interviewee were using their phone for research and other thing than chatting on social media. much as people owned phones and connected to internet through different mobile phone service providers , still people relied on words of mouth, rumors or displacing from tens of kilometers to read an announcement hanged on the service provider's door. As refugee youth ourselves sat and thought of the cost of getting access to information and how to avoid the news manipulation as we maintain the benefit of the digital development! we came up with the idea of creating a tool which would help both refugees in one hand and service providers in the other to access and deliver reliable and genuine information for improved livelihood of the fellows on the move.

Describe the dynamics of the community in which the idea is to be implemented. (1,000 characters)

There are more than 1.4 million refugees residing in Uganda from S.Sudan, D.R. Congo, Somalia, Burundi, etc. and of these, a big number is unemployed and living in the rural areas of which 16% reside in Kampala. In the Urban area, majority of the refugees are youth living in slum areas of Kampala and are struggling to survive. Considering that more than 70% of Uganda’s population are youth and of these 64% are unemployed also limits the chances/ opportunities of refugee youth to get employment and other opportunities. A series of brainstorming meetings and consultative activities with youth from different organisations (both refugee and host community youth led) held to assess the youth (both refugees and nationals) protection risks and challenges. availing information on relief services, protection measures, Education opportunities, Job placements, reproductive health and rights, voluntary repatriation, products and services available and more will help settle refugees.

How does your idea leverage and empower community strengths and assets to help create an environment for success? (1,000 characters)

Forced displacement limits young people’s ability to access social and economic capital, to acquire education and skills, to create their own opportunities, and to contribute to the development of their communities. The future of young people in refugee communities is compromised by early child marriage, gender based violence, lack of youth friendly health care services and access to current and accurate information on availability of employment, quality youth friendly services, education opportunities, notably secondary schools and vocational training, among many other challenges. In addition, the hosts know less about the skills, knowledge and potentials that the refugee youth poses. In most cases, they are seen as an extra burden to public service and integration into the host community get affected. the platform avails needed and reliable information to refugees on opportunities surrounding them but also the general public get knowledge on skills and potential among refugees.

What other partners or stakeholders will work alongside you in implementing the idea, if any? (1,000 characters)

1. The Office of the prime minister(OPM) refugee desk in charge of settling and protecting all refugees and asylum seekers in Uganda, 2. UNHCR Supporting the government in its refugee program; 3. OneYouthOneHeart (OYOH) is a youth led and youth serving organization seeking to bridge the gap between refugee youth and host community peers by creating platforms where both refugee and host community come together for networking, partnership and capacity building, to co-create innovative solutions to community challenges. The challenges presented by youth include: Unemployment, Discrimination, Language barrier, Lack of access to appropriate education and legal services, Negligence and poor support delivery methods, and limited access to information among others. Vision: One Youth One Heart nurtures a generation of youth that goes beyond. The generation will go beyond any possible barriers, limits, themselves, frontiers, cultures, nations, boundaries, dreams and imaginations to bring about expected change. Mission: One Youth One Heart initiative co-creates a platform where youth can dream, inspire and change.

P ce qui concerne les kiosques, je pense que c'est seulement un problème de conception mais si c'est bien fait, ca devrait aller. en fait il est difficile de mettre fin aux déplacements des populations. Donc certains voudraient même rester dans le milieu d'accueil de manière définitive alors que d'autres voudraient bien rentrer dans leur pays ou contrée selon les cas et ce la après que la situation les ayant fait fouir a pris fin. et le cycle continue. Donc, ceux qui ont été déplacés hier, peuvent devenir ceux qui vont recevoir d'autres déplacés aujourd'hui. l'idée donc des permanence des kiosques tient au fait que les déplacement est devenu une réalité dans nos communautés.
je suis d'accord que cela prendre trop des fonds s'il faut imprimer de temps en temps des dépliants...alors que le logiciel lui est en ligne mais encore faudra t il se demander combien sont réellement servi ou seront réellement bénéficiaire est ce que cela ne sera pas plus bénéfique aux communautés les plus libres et nanties au détriment des déplacés vu les modes d'accès? en tout cas je pense c'est une idée géniale et il faudrait juste l'encadrer. en fait l'idée n'encourage pas le déplacement mais veut répondre au fait qui a déjà précéder l'idée. on ne peut plus ignorer cette réalité sinon c'est le début de l’échec de toute tentative de résolution du problème.
