What problem does the idea help to solve and how does your solution work? (2,000 characters maximum)

Problem to be solved: Migrants and refugees find it difficult to work in Brazil and generate income, which affects human dignity and the achievement of autonomy; Limited access to work and employment; Limited access to technology services; Local poverty; Xenophobia. Brazil has 1.4 million migrants and refugees. Sirians, Haitians and Venezuelans are the main ethnic groups of migrants and refugees in Brazil. We impact income generation through free mobile app connectivity between migrants and refugees who can provide services, from A to Z with people who need services. We promote on the Nobis platform (by mobile, people-centric application), including communication and appreciation of diversity, improving hospitality levels in Brazil, by engaging in servant activities related to migrants' personal capabilities: We offer qualification for new work contexts. We increase the self-sufficiency of migrants and refugees through service work. We identified the skills and competences developed in the migrants' country of origin. The solution works: First, we identify in host and internalization institutions and agencies and support the possibilities for synergy. They allow us to dialogue with refugees and migrants to confront them by dialogue to build a relationship and promote solutions that are ever closer to their challenges and reality. Then we address one of the most pressing needs: income generation and access to work. Network Support & Governance: The qualification offer in different dimensions is made by the presential and distance modalities. Some training areas: Portuguese Language, specific technical courses specific to the context of Brazilian services, legislation, access to benefits and support. Nobis is also working to improve micro-entrepreneurship skills among migrants. This also benefits Brazil, as it promotes skills exchange, diversity, inclusion and socio-cultural coexistence. All of these actions are underpinned by a network governance.

Geography of focus (500 characters)

The Nobis platform beggins activities in Paraná state, with Haitians, Venezuelans migrants and refugees (Paraná has 77,000 migrants). We choose that zone by the fact that Nobis is in this state, as by geographic proximity, which also make it easier to approach the migrants and refugees reality. At this point we are working to expand to Sao Paulo, state where is the biggest migrants concentration in Brazil (530,000) and after that we advance to the whole Brazil territory (1,4 millions migrants).

Building Bridges: What bridge does your idea build between people on the move and neighbors towards a shared future of stability and promise? (500 characters)

Nobis has built bridges with different organizations to carry out activities and realize synergies to work out how to deepen and act on the challenges of migrants and refugees. Organizations: Public Prosecution Service (to seek regulatory guidance and provide legal mecanisms to work inclusion from migration in Brazil) NGOs working with refugees and migrants, focusing on how we could improve opportunities. Several churches/religions in with we can draw bridges in favour to migrants inclusion.

What human need is your idea solving for? (1,000 characters)

The needs met by Nobis: economic and social inclusion of migrants and refugees, free access to technological mediation of work in services A to Z, as well as training and human development. Networking with support groups and institutions to identify regulatory aspects and understand the challenges. Offer of qualification to migrants and refugees: work(ability), building autonomy; micro entrepreneurship; and technology use. Identification of the skills brought from the countries of origin to include them in the Nobis platform. Free access to the mobile application Nobis, for migrants and refugees to offer services, as well as conduct transactions, financial control. Nobis is responsible for conectivity these services and mobilizing customers to integrate migrants into service delivery in Brazil. We are developing a platform to expand the offer of qualification by distance modality. Hence the involvement of national and international organizations in the qualification of migrants.

What will be different within the community of focus as a result of implementing your idea? (1,000 characters)

The results generated and to be enlarged by the Nobis Plataform consists: 1. In the governance of the support net focusing on income generation: It’s noted high fragmentation and disacurtilation between organization that act with migrants in Brazil. Many organizations attends migrants in isolated way. 2. More than qualification, we offer free access work opportunities by service provision opportunities with supporting to autonomy. 3. With the platform it’s possible to generates reports that point statistics about the migrants and refugees work profile. The geoprocessing in services, potentialize integration and social and economic migrant insertion in Brazil. 4. We accompany people, offering support and continuous qualification, not only punctual ways, as many projects and institutions do, but procedural and daily action. 5. We can establish nets between migrants in a community perspective of mutual support, promoting cooperation between migrants at local and regional levels.

What is the inspiration behind your idea? (1,000 characters)

Nobis is inspired by the concrete purpose of show Brazil and worldwide that is possible to cross geopolitics barriers by the peace exercise, that only can be promoted when people really care with the “Other”. Who is the “Other”? More than geographic proximity we talk about human proximity. So “Other” is the one that need more of humanity, but She/He has His/Her own history, culture, competencies and experiences. So, the history that we want to build is very practical: Of the one migrants or refugee that arrives in Brazil, regulates the legal situation and starts to think in himself survival. The Nobis platform will be more than a technological mediation space, it will be a space of work opportunities, income generation and plurality, where it is possible to bring on the baggage, beyond the history, the abilities that the migrant or refugee developed in another world place, and that can used as a way of autonomy conquer and integration in a new place through work. We trust in humanity.

Nobis was developed in 2017 and launched in June 2018 as a socially impacted, people-centered business with the ability to apply its skills in new ways of working, especially technology-driven services. Nobis offers 1) Accessible connectivity for people working in new work, services, A to Z (ie from the simplest to the most specialized and across all industries). Since the beginning of Nobis activities, migrants and refugees have been contemplated. We have developed a support network roughly with the reality of migration. To date, we have invested R $ 500,000.00 with our own resources. In addition to promoting income generation, we generate data and statistics that support decisions and enable geoprocessing for the service sector in Brazil. In October 2019, we will launch a version of the platform for distance education across the country. For the coming months, we will work with fundraising to intensify this dynamic of migrant integration and empower to micro-entrepreneurship.

This file is a brief presentation of how the Nobis platform works. What problems we seek to solve, how the platform works and how we generate resources for economic and social sustainability. The financial sustainability of a social business such as the Nobis platform only occurs when we can work in an intensely integrated and plural network. We seek to establish synergy relations with public and private organizations.

Dear Claudia,

You have a very interesting proposition. In my own conceptual framework to (in European rural villages) integrate/incubate refugees who face difficulties to immediately connect to the labor market (on average it takes 5 years to find employment for refugees in Europe) I have designed a socially bit different alternative approach to address the inequality and participation issues: maybe it can be useful for your project?

Hello Hans van Nieuwkerk
Thanks for the feedback. I also thank you for the idea of inclusion from the rural area.
In Brazil, we have aggravating economic, political and social issues that make employment increasingly difficult for Brazilians, especially for migrants and refugees. Brazilian industry has been facing investment constraints for years to revitalize manufacturing and technology, so job creation is increasingly limited.
Thus, the Nobis platform seeks to work on new possibilities for income generation from services, in a logic of collaboration and neighborhood. We work hard for social and economic inclusion for the qualification of people and the relationships that people establish with each other.
It's good to be connected to share our experiences in different parts of the world.

Dear Claudia,

Thank you for your reply. Although I currently focus on the synergy between refugee integration and rural revitalization in Europe, most of the conceptual frameworks I developed are universal and can be adapted to almost any situation.

For your context I think that my Universal Basic Employment framework may be of interest to have a look at. It converts "welfare money" (if available), which requires solidarity of a population to give it, into "basic income" based on a contribution to society, which in principle generates solidarity.
