My best friend in the world
It is about a fellow strategy to guide children in situation of migration through the teaching of self - care and creativity stimulation
Part of the strategy focuses on the personification of characters created between children and the community
What problem does the idea help to solve and how does your solution work? (2,000 characters maximum)
1. The project is focused on migration and displacement population within Colombia (interdepartamental migration) and Venezuela migration to Colombia. Specifically we will address the immigration of children from Venezuela: Children between 7 and 10 years in the process of migration who relocate semi-permanently in another place different from the place they inhabit.
2. We found a type of migration named Pendular Migration; defined by the Colombia government organization Migración Colombia, community in which we will work through the project. The main problem is that migration alters the structure of families. While it is true that economic factors are major drivers, migration involves highly diverse groups of people, including girls, boys, women, men, and better-off as well as poorer people (UNICEF).
Experience has shown that children in mobility are affected by migration in different ways: children are left behind by migrant parents; they are brought along with their migrating parents; and they migrate alone, independently of parents and adult guardians. In Colombia into the Pendular Migration; citizens who reside in the border area and move usually between the two countries, registering, even several entries and departures per day, there are 166.276 children under 17 affected by this condition and potential future beneficiaries of the project.
3. The solution is a strategy about making connections with a personification of a “friend” that promotes self-care and stimulate creativity. It is a continuous process in which we identify and guide the “move” community by working together with self - care tools in order to develop cultural recognition and identity violence prevention.
This image describes the operation and a general methodology of the project summarized in 8 steps
Geography of focus (500 characters)
Where Pendular Migration occurs between Venezuela: Zulia (170.324 people), Táchira (526.595), Mérida (87.640), Barinas (87.851), Carabobo (126.482), Lara (98.456) and limit departments of Colombia: Norte de Santander, Cesar and La Guajira. Because the population with the higher risk of displacement is located there. We focus on the meeting points of the population of border areas from Venezuela and Colombia.
Building Bridges: What bridge does your idea build between people on the move and neighbors towards a shared future of stability and promise? (500 characters)
Firstly is the identification process located in three boundary zones where are located the “extended arrival centers”. Secondly it is the rural and urban area of Bogotá where are located the “arrival centers” and where the “BFOW friend workshops are held”; the workshops are collaborative work points to identify the skills of community through creative. These places are strategically selected because are areas of confluence and interaction between visitors (Dream sharers) and hosts (Hope keeper)
What human need is your idea solving for? (1,000 characters)
According to Max - Neef Fundamental Human Needs classification, we are working in Affection and Creation axiological needs. The entire strategic system seeks to cover needs such as protection, participation and identity, according to Max Neef, for the healthy development of the child in the migration process. This is managed through the support and attention the colombian guides will provide to the child, from the development of the workshop to the planting of the friend (the entire project cycle).
What will be different within the community of focus as a result of implementing your idea? (1,000 characters)
When the strategy is applied, a change in the vision of children will be created in the face of displacement, and the impact on emotional stability may be less, so as not to generate social or personal conflicts in the child's growth. On the other hand, the idea with its cyclic intention can generate stability and frequency when applied, since it is available for children in migratory communities. And finally, the follow-up that volunteers do to children, can achieve a registry and also a closeness to the growth and development of the child's process.
What is the inspiration behind your idea? (1,000 characters)
The inspiration comes from the experience of a team member. In her childhood for a Earth Day in the school. This project consisted of making a toy with grass hair, keeping it in the classroom and during the rest of the school year it had to be taken care of and styled according to the style we wanted to give it. The purpose was purely educational, to know the process of photosynthesis, promote the care of the green and commemorate Earth Day. When I thought about migrants I thought directly about children, because in the short term the situation is faced by the adult but in the long term it will have consequences for the infant, so you should think about how to improve this experience and rescue the positive, create a better memory. The child can create his best friend of himself, in which he can channel any negative emotion product of some situation he may have witnessed in his journey. It is his best friend, not only a toy it is a living being that needs care and attention.
Describe the dynamics of the community in which the idea is to be implemented. (1,000 characters)
Along the way, parents are forced to take their children with them in search of a better life for their family. From the moment they leave their homes and undertake an uncertain journey, migrants go through situations of need. For example, Venezuelans choose as their destination neighboring places to find opportunities, however during the tour they have to find a way to obtain resources to cover their basic needs, they come and go in public transportation (Image), in public spaces from the main cities seeking help. Meanwhile the children are only present, doing nothing but the company of their parents. When they are babies, parents pay more attention to meet their needs, but when they are infants, so much is the concern and eagerness of parents to get sustenance that they pay less attention to their children.

How does your idea leverage and empower community strengths and assets to help create an environment for success? (1,000 characters)
Having a best friend with them, who listens them, with whom they play, who they care for, promotes in them from neuropsychology to satisfy the need for leisure, dialogue, catalyze their negative and positive emotions. It also promotes the development of mirror neurons, seeing how their parents take care of them, because the child will also seek to take care of his best friend. It is also an educational means of self-recognition, care of the earth, personal care and learning of Biology from anatomy to photosynthesis.
My best friend in the world will be the best teacher, the best company, the best game and the best memory.
What other partners or stakeholders will work alongside you in implementing the idea, if any? (1,000 characters)
We plan to make allies with companies in the textile industry that provide the raw material for the construction of the best friend. Only scraps or residues of textile material, threads, fabrics, etc. are required. Also make allies in the agricultural industry, to provide seeds and land to give life to the best friend. And strategic allies for the development of the workshops and activities corresponding to the project.
