What problem does the idea help to solve and how does your solution work? (2,000 characters maximum)

Our target is the migrant Venezuelan population in Northern Ecuador and the problems facing their integration. Venezuela is amid a major humanitarian crisis, which is the cause of the migration of nearly 4 million people to neighboring countries such as Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. This displaced community often left Venezuela in a very bad person, economic, social and health situation. Many of them came to Ecuador simply by walking through Colombia (thousands of kilometers!), leaving all their belongings and only with what they can carry with them on foot. The receiving countries are unable to resolve this great crisis on their own. Problems associated -Integration of the Venezuelan migrant population in northern Ecuador. -Need for updating public policies and operational strategies related to migration. -Establish links between the Venezuelan community in Ecuador and Venezuela. -The violence generated by migrants that engenders xenophobia. -Robberies. -Creation of a generalized bad image about Venezuelans. -Some cultural differences between Venezuelans and Ecuadorians. Causes -Migration and displacement due to poor social conditions in Venezuela. -Some migrants in a very bad economic situation and in many cases of health. -Many migrants in an irregular legal situation. -Lack of job opportunities in the area for professionals. -Poorly paid or unpaid work. -Begging or peddling (informal jobs). -Exploitation: sexual, labor, children for begging. -Housing problems. -Lack of access to education in school and universities. -Deficiency of training that difficult incorporation into the labor market.

Geography of focus (500 characters)

This idea focuses on northern Ecuador because this area receives hundreds of Venezuelan migrants on a daily basis. Many of them have just arrived walking through Colombia and are begging on the street or looking for food, work or shelter. In this region, several situations of confrontation between the local population and the migrant community have erupted in recent months, including the loss of human lives and property. In some places, Venezuelans migrants have been evicted home by home.

Building Bridges: What bridge does your idea build between people on the move and neighbors towards a shared future of stability and promise? (500 characters)

The basis is to put into practice a system through which Venezuelans of high professional level help to overcome the shortcomings of the underprivileged and to promote their integration in the Ecuadorian society Use Venezuela's extensive musical and artistic variety to promote integration Artists and professionals are better suited to integrate into a new environment. Two basic concepts Casa Venezuela: attention for migrants and cultural center. Productive farm: jobs creation and training.

What human need is your idea solving for? (1,000 characters)

We promote human dignity because our idea is to provide shelter, jobs and training for migrants. Also professional advice on health and legal issues. Migrants are often exploited, robbed, kidnapped and discriminated against. This situation is sometimes due to the illegal situation they face, or the lack of information about support programs or facilities such as shelters. Many migrants left Venezuela with hungry, so they need food and clothes for the Andean environment. Our purpose is to improve their integration into Ecuadorian society in the north of Ecuador.

What will be different within the community of focus as a result of implementing your idea? (1,000 characters)

We have an integrative approach that includes: -Creation of a legal organization to represent Venezuelans -Carrying out an awareness program on migration issues -Organizing Casa Venezuela: attention center for migrants -A microcredits program for entrepreneurship -Establishment of a productive farm With all this we will be able to organize support for the migrant community, addressing many of the limitations they face in their new place. Then, if we help to solve the problem of people begging or peddling on the streets we will improve the perception of the local community about migrants. In addition, if we promote some of the best examples of Venezuelan integration into the society of northern Ecuador, the local community will be more willing to accept migrants. Also, many Venezuelan artists are famous here, so culture helps improve acceptance of migrants.

What is the inspiration behind your idea? (1,000 characters)

Ourselves taking care of ourselves! We need to change the perception is that Venezuelans are thieves and gangsters and in general the image of migrants, the reasons why they have left their country and the need to improve their economic and social situation. Therefore, we plan the creation of Casa Venezuela and a Productive Farm. Casa Venezuela is a meeting point to take care of migrants and will promote Venezuelan music and art: Promote integration through culture and respect. On the estate, the use of the latest technology in agricultural production is planned: to promote integration through technology. The growing Venezuelan community has specific demands for products such as Venezuelan cheeses and spices: Promote integration through gastronomy.

Describe the dynamics of the community in which the idea is to be implemented. (1,000 characters)

There is currently a large population of Venezuelan immigrants in Ecuador estimated at about 300,000 people currently by the authorities, with the expectation that the colony will grow and reach up to 500,000 persons by the end of the year. This migrant population generates a large number of problems in its integration and its growing demand for services, health and food. However, they also generate opportunities and if Ecuadorian society knows how to adequately integrate these migrants, it can take advantage of their technical and professional skills, also enhancing their consumption capacity increases the size of the local market, which can translate into an improvement in the country's economic development. A large part of Venezuelan migration is made up of professionals and technicians of the highest level. Immigration generally generates more opportunities and serves to increase the quality of life of the local population economically and socially.

How does your idea leverage and empower community strengths and assets to help create an environment for success? (1,000 characters)

This proposal is focused on attacking the roots of the problem faced by Venezuelan migration in the north of Ecuador, since it has difficulties for its integration and in general to improve its standard of living due to the few job opportunities that exist, and the generally unfavorable conditions in which it has to perform. That is why we intend to create a reception center for Venezuelans, where we can give them information, medical and legal care, and also serve to promote Venezuelan culture in the area, with which we are changing the perception that the locals have about our community and improving the possibilities of economic and social integration of migrants. A second complementary project is the development of a productive farm and in general an agro-industrial process, which will generate many sources of work at all levels, as well as products of Venezuelan gastronomy to meet the demand of the growing Venezuelan population in Ecuador.

What other partners or stakeholders will work alongside you in implementing the idea, if any? (1,000 characters)

A WhatsApp group to discuss this Project was created including: Agronomists, Chemical engineer, Architect, Lawyers, Statistician, Nutritionist, MD, MBA, Educators, Plant Biotech Scientist This presentation got input from: -Elizabeth Van Sijtveld, Lawyer -Rosalba Ulloa, Architect -Ayolaida Rodríguez, Ph.D. We hope to include more professional and especially artist and musicians. Undertake a census of the migrant population to identify training and employment needs. We also have a Venezuelan WhatsApp Group in Ibarra, to share common experiences among the community. Other social networks are used too. We plan to work also with cooperation agency from different government, as an example Usaid is coming back to Ecuador and in their programs, migrants are among the main priority for their action.

Interesting, there are synergies with our proposal.

Hi Yvonne. Thanks for your commentary.
I got it. Yes, I am. Plant Biotechnologist and I have been working in the secundary metabolism of plants, specially cocoa. Cocoa is very good for health and certainly there is a marked for medicinal plants among the migrant community .
