ENHANCEMENT OF ENTREPRENEURIAL SKILLS TO THE PEOPLE ON THE MOVE FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
Reducing human suffering and poverty by empowering vulnerable, marginalized and displaces communities to achieve self-reliance
What problem does the idea help to solve and how does your solution work? (2,000 characters maximum)
Today, there is the added anxiety experienced by refugees owing to the insecurity and danger to which a number of them are exposed. A good part of this serious problem could be soared if all countries operating a regular immigration programme could earmark part of their annual intake for refugees to be admitted on humanitarian grounds while at the same time accepting additional numbers of refugees who qualify for entry as regular immigrants under normal criteria. A generous response to this need by both groups of countries could provide permanent solutions for these persons who seek safety and the possibility of living dignified and independent life”.
TCRS have seen the need for addressing the problem by proposing that urban refugees all together with the vulnerable host community should have something like a microfinance that operates within the TCRS office that is a revolving fund for refugees and vulnerable host communities so that they can take some money to start up their small business and Village Community Bank VICOBA for income generation and strengthen their capacities in addressing their small challenges via short causes of entrepreneurship because they do not have national identity cards to make them access basic human needs like employment, medical insurance, communications nor bank account for accessing big loans.
Refugees are also human being but with more stress due to their situations distinctively therefore the effect of psychological traumas will be expounded in front of the therapist in psychosocial cancelling department office after diagnostic of the level of traumatic stress appropriate psychosocial support will be granted to the refugees and programs will be organized accordingly to help them socially
The plan of action on the first selected refugees and host communities for learning the entrepreneurial skills and practices will be measured after a month to see the impact that brought by the project to the refugees and host communities
Geography of focus (500 characters)
The proposed idea targets the urban refugees in Dar es salaam region, Morogoro region and Coastal region in Tanzania because apart from the few exceptions of those granted permission to live on the city and the majority of refugees and asylum seekers have escaped camp life because the urban areas are seen to offer improved opportunities for security, Food, education, communication, business and personal freedom as they are hopping to re-unite with family members again
Building Bridges: What bridge does your idea build between people on the move and neighbors towards a shared future of stability and promise? (500 characters)
The link between the host communities and the refugees affects the way locals view refugees, not as people with lots of needs, but as individuals with opinions capable of a shared effort to improve their community. Since the public often tends to see refugees as victims or troublemakers, this proposed idea aims to tell a different story focused on refugees given the chance to share their stories and talent and skills while avoiding bureaucracy or the need for money
What human need is your idea solving for? (1,000 characters)
By establishing clear, shared goals early on and building collaborative initiatives with the private sector, the humanitarian community can start to make real progress with integrating the peacefully displaced within host communities so that they have the opportunity to rebuild their lives. Introducing this idea can bring the opportunities for contribution that enables a variety of sources of capital to be part of the solutionThe idea is important for the reason of a promoting livelihood and self-reliance: Urban refugees’ access to viable livelihood is the key factor establishing their well-being and survival. If urban refugees can secure a livelihood and meet their basic material needs, they can better manage and afford to access services like food, shelter, education and health. The Government may look on how the urban refugees can be allowed to work and be employed and thus improving their well-being while at the same time contributing to the economy of the community and the country
What will be different within the community of focus as a result of implementing your idea? (1,000 characters)
The proposed idea will create actionable impact on the problem we want to address and create positive change within the community and for individuals because financial capital is perceived as the most salient factor that inhibits refugees’ efforts to become self-reliant, access to credit through promotion of microfinance scheme such as saving and credit schemes will be more useful as the majority of them are lacking relevant document to enable them access the bank loans in Tanzania.
Constructive community based relations and security: The survey findings repeatedly flag both the importance and the difficulty of reaching out to urban refugees. The proposed idea could be used as an approach to both foster effective refugee community and provide programs that are mutually beneficial for refugees and host communities.
Psychological cancelling is of the very high importance because the refugees’ minds and hearts are in so much pain and anger to make them reduce their suffering
What is the inspiration behind your idea? (1,000 characters)
In Tanzania a refugee can only get employment only if there is no any national individual having the required skills so this policy leaves the refugees behind and continuing living difficult lives.
TCRS has been receiving refugees at the office asking for support on food, shelter, education because they know the organization have the humanitarian and relief program. Now that the organization is lacking the funds we TCRS staffs regularly contribute the money from our pockets to support these people. The situation gave the organization an alert on the need to think of a great and sustainable idea and mobilize funds whereby TCRS will manage it for them as the revolving fund and make the urban refugees’ access small loans for income generating activities after being equipped with the entrepreneurial skills then identify the available business opportunities on their own and change their life situations. This situation made TCRS thinks of a possible solution to re recurring challenge
Describe the dynamics of the community in which the idea is to be implemented. (1,000 characters)
The country is home to the world’s third largest refugee camp, Nyarugusu. In 2015, Tanzania saw its refugee population double as increased political instability across the border in neighboring Burundi forced a massive inflow of Burundians displaced by violence. Surrounded by conflict, Tanzania has a long history of hosting refugees from neighboring countries. The recent influx of Burundian refugees following contested elections in 2015 has strained the country’s already limited resources. Refugee camps have become overloaded and underfunded for TCRS to manage to provide all the services hence narrowed down to WASH program within the camps (Nduta and Mtendeli) but also in the cities with the urban refugees. The prolonged hardships the refugees’ experiences have led to refugees escape from the camps to the nearby camp surrounding community so the income level is very low that is the reason why revolving fund for urban refugees is highly required to reduce the suffering
How does your idea leverage and empower community strengths and assets to help create an environment for success? (1,000 characters)
A number of income generating projects have been completed by TCRS staff and national and in-country volunteers with inspiring careers in collaboration with UNHCR and other partners since 1964 together with the refugees have really empowered the refugees and some of them are still using the knowledge. With the proposed idea more refugees: Asylum seekers, stateless people and internal displaced people together with a few number of host communities will be brought together to develop their program with the TCRS responsible officials for effective presentation and practices hence settle the best possible impact of entrepreneurial skills to the target people and be able to effectively maximize their revolving fund for the agreed activities considering the areas their interests and expertise that they have mentioned. For those with no specification of their interests will be trained on other small business then execute their business with intensive care, monitoring and evaluation of TCRS
