The Renewable Energy Challenge is rooted deeply in communities – so the stories and voices of community leaders and organizations are vital to our solutions. For this reason, we’re excited to attempt to draw more directly on those stories through our new, experimental volunteer positions: Community Outreach Leaders. We selected seven Outreach Leaders based around the globe who have been enriching our conversations by grounding ideas in local contexts and we’re already excited about the interviews and perspectives they’ve contributed to the Renewable Energy Challenge.

Please welcome our Community Outreach Leaders:

So what have they been up to? This amazing team got straight to work mobilizing their communities and networks - both virtual and physical - to participate in the challenge and spread the word.  Anja, John, and Tomo interviewed leaders from their respective communities and posted their perspectives to the platform, and Tino held an OpenIDEO Meetup with over 20 attendees! We look forward to continuing this experiment, deepening the quality of ideas we see and promoting global and productive discussions around renewable energy. Here are some more ways they’re helping enrich our collaboration behind the scenes:

  • Identifying different renewable energy experiences
  • Promoting the Renewable Energy Challenge on social media
  • Bringing in new and exciting perspectives around the world
  • Calling upon energy and environmental leaders to contribute to the discussion

We’ve also had lots of help from organizations in getting the word out about the Renewable Energy Challenge. Special thanks to our rockstar outreach partners who have published articles, gotten their network in the know and supported the transition to becoming Rapidly Renewable:

  • Grist (read the article they published)
  • TriplePundit (read the article they published)
  • Sierra Club
  • Saha Global
  • Bay Localize
  • ACE Climate Education
  • The Solutions Project
  • The 11th Hour Project

Lastly, our Huddle speakers simply could not have been better and we'd like to give them a special shoutout:
  • Emily Kirsch, SfunCube
  • Shouvik Banerjee, SolarCity
  • Andrea Kissack, KQED
  • Adam Browning, Vote Solar
  • Donnie Oliveira, San Francisco Department of the Environment
  • Sarah Shanley Hope, The Solutions Project
  • Nicholas Aster, TriplePundit
  • Scott Paterson, IDEO

Let’s continue the momentum from these powerful interviews, perspectives, and organizations during our currently running Ideas Phase. Be sure to wow us with your fresh thinking by Jan 25th!
