Over the course of the Future of Higher Ed Challenge, we'll be featuring Q&As with our Challenge Sponsors, the organizations and individuals who have partnered with us in building this Challenge, and will play a significant role in supporting top ideas moving forward.
This week, let’s get to know Level Education, one of our 4 Challenge sponsors.
The Quick Facts
Level Education from Northeastern University provides high-quality, intensive, experiential educational programs that enable lifelong learners to acquire the skills needed to advance their personal and professional goals.
The Juicy Details
What are 3 words that describe your organization?
Experiential, Intensive, Personalized
If your organization had a superhero doppelganger, which would it be?
The Beast. He’s a professor by day but has superhuman agility and strength when he hulks out. He's also a team player as part of the X-Men.
What brought you to the Higher Ed Challenge? Give us one word that describes your feelings about it!
Excitement. There aren’t many places you can have a bigger or more immediate impact than at a university. Universities have vast networks, abundance of talent, innovative research, and are anchors of their local community. This mix creates an ideal environment for innovation. That said, the ecosystem work is bigger than any single institution or even the nonprofit sector writ large; and the best ideas are more likely to come from outside the ivory tower. We’re excited to sponsor the OpenIDEO Challenge to reimagine higher education, and we hope to inspire others to believe that they are not only stakeholders in education, but are also change agents.
If you could give participants in the Challenge one piece of advice, what would it be?
What are the biggest opportunity areas you see in the higher ed space?
Today’s students can’t expect to have the same kind of career their parents might have with consistent W-2 income. With the rise of the gig economy and torrid pace of innovation, people need to be able to create their own jobs whether they are entrepreneurs starting new businesses, or intrapreneurs inside an organization. Universities can future-proof their students by “teaching them how to fish”, and those students will become tomorrow’s donors, employers, and alumni advocates.
What kinds of ideas or solutions are you most excited about seeing in the Challenge?
As the President of our university often says: learners are either short on experience and long on time, or short on time and long on experience. We're particularly interested in solutions for learners that are short on time and long on experience.
The Fine Print:
Where is your organization headquartered?
Who does your organization work with?
How else will your organization be involved in the Challenge?
Level Education from Northeastern University will be providing $25,000 worth of challenge support in the form of an "Idea to MVP" entrepreneurship bootcamp for one or more qualifying top ideas, and access to programs in other in-demand tech skills. We look forward to helping you make your idea a reality!
