Check out this sketch from a brainstorm on some of the roles community members can play!

Ready for something fresh? OpenIDEO is keen to empower collaborators to shape impact in a whole new way with our upcoming Women’s Safety Challenge. Over the past year, we’ve experimented with a volunteer community role called the Community Champion. This prototype uncovered valuable insights about how we can continue to engage and support our community throughout our challenges. Our most important learning? When our community members step into leadership roles, our challenge collaborations and conversations become more inclusive, dynamic and fun.

Building on these learnings, we’re expanding this experiment for our Women’s Safety Challenge to include three volunteer Community Roles. Last week we issued a call for applications and were blown away by the experiences and perspectives you shared with us. After a very tough decision, we’re now excited to announce the folks who will be guiding our collaborations during this challenge.

Cansu is our Community Prototyper. She’s an Industrial Designer with experience piloting products in the social impact sector, as well as a long-time OpenIDEATOR. Through the use of experimentation and prototyping, Cansu will support our community to further iterate and build out our ideas while also sharing tips and tricks for prototyping to propel an idea forward.

Karolle  is our Community Champion. Karolle is entrenched in the social change network in Mumbai and is deeply immersed within the world of gender issues, women’s health and safety and human rights on a daily basis. In her role, Karolle will be leading the charge on communicating high-level community insights and findings from the challenge through the OpenIDEO blog.
Jamie is our Community Cross-Pollinator. She was a foreign service officer with USAID for nearly 10 years, based in Bangladesh, India, Nepal and East Africa. Jamie will support our challenge efforts by connecting people and ideas to drive to new partnerships and collaborations.

Welcome aboard Cansu, Jamie and Karolle! As our new community volunteers get settled in their roles, we encourage everyone to consider how we can be part of supporting new collaborations across this challenge. Connecting the dots, experimenting with building ideas and offering leadership are all opportunities to deepen our collective efforts and our impact. Also, feel free to reach out to our community volunteers to join their efforts, share interesting things you’re seeing or ask questions. With that, let’s head over to the challenge to join the conversation.
