OVERVIEW

The Amplify Team is getting ready for our second challenge launching in September. In this challenge we’ll be tackling Early Childhood Development and asking our community to collaboratively design inspiring new ways to help parents and primary caregivers, especially those living in low-income areas, give children the best possible start in life.

One of our main goals with the Amplify program is to engage local communities, some of which don’t have access to the internet,  in identifying needs and finding solutions.  In order to achieve this goal, we are currently developing several prototypes: one to start local Amplify hubs and a second one to extend the OpenIDEO platform to communities with limited or no access to the Internet.

FELLOWSHIPS

Amplify In-Country Managers
We are developing an in-country fellowship for individuals in Nepal, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. These local ambassadors will significantly contribute towards engaging local individuals and organizations  and increase their participation in Amplify challenges.

This role is for someone who excels at building new relationships and is excited to do so on behalf of the Amplify program. You will be responsible for interviewing a diverse group of community members – individuals living in low-income areas, social entrepreneurs, local experts amongst others – and service providers whose perspective on early childhood development challenges and opportunities offer valuable insights to the Research & Ideas phases of our challenge.  Apply and learn more about specific roles and  information.

VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

During the Amplify Women's Safety Challenge we launched our first Interactive Voice Response (IVR) prototype in Delhi. We worked with two radio stations and designed an automated call system to allow people in India to listen to ideas from the early childhood development challenge without the need for internet. You can learn more about our work and learnings on this first prototype.

For our next prototype, we will seek to encourage  a conversation during the Research phase of our next challenge on  early childhood development. We are encouraging people in Jharkhand, India and Morogoro, Tanzania to share their stories on parenting with the OpenIDEO community and in return asking the OpenIDEO community to provide comments on their contributions.

Are you excited about instigating change around early childhood development? Apply for  the role that fits your interests!

COMMUNITY CONNECTORS

We are looking for two Community Connectors to bring content back and forth from the Interactive Voice Response platform – a website where content from calls is posted– and OpenIDEO, in order to support a more participatory and open conversation.

Community Connector: India
10 hours per week

During the four weeks of the Research phase, you will be part of a pioneer project to create a truly global discussion. Your role will be to bridge the conversation between people in Jharkhand, India with limited or no access to internet and the OpenIDEO community. You can be anywhere in the world but we prefer if you have traveled to or have lived in India.

A  great Community Connector:

  • Has  excellent writing skills
  • Has passion for working in early childhood development
  • Is mindful of tone and language relevant to the OpenIDEO community and contributors in Jharkhand  when curating and rallying content back and forth
  • Demonstrates passion and experience establishing conversations between diverse stakeholders.
  • Has lived/worked in India  or has  experience working in international development
  • Speaks Hindi – preferred but not required

You will:

  • Receive training on Human Centred Design with a focus on instigating online collaboration.
  • Chat weekly with the Amplify Team to share insights and updates and get an insiders scoop into the behind the scenes
  • Share cultural insights and manage the OpenIDEO profile for the Jharkand, India contributor group.
  • Read stories submitted by people in Jharkhand, India via the Interactive Voice Response System, curate them and post them on  OpenIDEO.  Stories will be in English.
  • Invite challenge participants to comment on these posts and frame a conversation highlighting insights from these stories.
  • Work with translators to make sure content is framed in appropriate tone and voice
