Attendees from the first Singapore OpenIDEO Meetup.
Last December we surveyed the collaborators of our Connected Communities Challenge and asked if they wanted to get more involved in OpenIDEO. Excitingly, 96% of the survey respondents said they would join a local Meetup, and many left an email address for us to contact them with more information. We met with these volunteers several times over Google Hangout and had four organisers start Meetups in their local communities. We are so excited by this strong start.
We started this experiment to explore how we might help our community establish the social connections that are often required to make a local impact happen. We've already gotten requests for some of the participants of those early Meetups to start their own. With this – and our always present desire to be inclusive in mind – we want to extend this experiment to invite anyone who wants to run their own Meetup to get involved. Join the party!
Depending on where you live, we have different options for you. If you're in Barcelona, Singapore, New York, or Palo Alto, click here to view a page with information about your organiser and how to get involved . If you live elsewhere, email us at hello@openideo to RSVP that you want to organise your own Meetup. We will follow up with tools and ways for you to get started.
For more info on what's happened so far, check out our first post about the Meetups and the Meetup User Forum where some of our organisers have posted recent updates from their meetings. We're loving what we're seeing from our organisers so far and we're excited to help this movement grow.
